Republicans are good at one thing; uniting, even when it’s the wrong thing to do. Some mainstream members of the party are considering a third party candidate and disregard a Donald Trump nomination. Is this a fact, or simply an effort to force Trump to adopt more conservative ideals? If they did split from the GOP, and run a third candidate, who would that individual be, and from where would his or her funding initiate?
William Kristol, the longtime editor of the Weekly Standard magazine, and well-known conservative commentator, is urging Mitt Romney to become that candidate. Who, besides me, is not ready for another Romney entrance into the presidential race?
What the GOP refuses to admit, is that they cannot win in November with Trump as their standard bearer. Although the polls will show more narrow results as election day nears, Hillary Clinton leads Trump by 6.5 points nationally. As recently as one month ago, she led by more than 10 points, but that was prior to Trump becoming the presumptive nominee.
Regardless of whether the Republican Party offers one or two candidates, the reality is that it has no qualified man or woman who is willing to seek the presidency and further divide the party.
From a working man’s point of view, our nation cannot afford to elect a Republican who will fail the working class and offer proposals which will worsen the problems facing the majority of the American people. Sadly, if what Trump is saying in the last two days is truthful, he would be the best choice for Independents such as myself.
Now please don’t misunderstand me; I will vote for Hillary Clinton because, for the majority of Americans, she is the best choice by far. I support equality for women in all areas, immigration reform, judicial reform, changing the laws regarding campaign finance, saving the middle class by reducing income inequality, and reducing the cost of higher education. Only by addressing these issues can the United States become great again. Greatness is defined by the quality of life for all of the American people, not just the few.
Not a single Republican has addressed these issues. The party has focused on one thing, and one thing only; winning elections. Republicans have no interest in improving the quality of life for the majority; they continue to offer tax plans which will benefit special interests.
These are serious times, and our nation’s people cannot afford a President or Congress which will worsen our lives instead of making them better. The very future of the United States, the country founded by Jefferson, Franklin, Madison, Adams, and Washington is at stake. For sixteen years the GOP has attempted to divide our nation and destroy our form of democracy. Groups who donate millions of dollars to Republican campaigns receive the consideration of Republican politicians, while the needs of the many are ignored.
A large Democratic voter turnout, and the expected support of Independents, will insure Hillary Clinton’s victory in November. If Republicans continue to be divided, which I believe is impossible, she will win in a landslide.
