I am tired of writing about bigotry in America. We are certainly not the greatest nation in the world, but we may be the worst when compared to all other developed nations.
The Constitution is unique; it is a document which guarantees rights for all of its citizens, and promises equality regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, or religious belief.
Most of America believes that our nation’s people have evolved. They mistakenly assume that the evils of our nation; racism, bigotry, and overall prejudice; are disappearing. I am sorry to inform you that they are growing towards a level which existed in the 1950’s. Thanks to the influence of the Christian religious right, and its servant, the Republican Party, these despicable attributes are ruining our nation and its future.
This article will be focused on bigotry towards the LGBT community. If I included racist efforts by red states towards minorities, the war on women by the right wing, or efforts to deport nearly 12 million people, I would be required to write a book.
Some of you may be surprised that although I am 70 years of age, I have been a supporter of gay rights for my entire life. I have never understood homophobia. The homosexual men and women I have known fit the same standard I have for people of color I encounter. If they are good people, who live their daily lives respectful of other human beings, and seek no harm to their fellow man, I accept them as members of my community, and often into my life.
Those who are bigoted towards the LGBT community astound me. What possible harm can they perceive from a group whose only goal is to live the same simple lives as heterosexuals?
For some unfathomable reason, members of cults, otherwise known as religions, have allowed themselves to be brainwashed by men hiding behind a pulpit, claiming that Jesus Christ has condemned all homosexuals. None of this is based on truth. The fact is that their “religion” is based on fairy tales and the rules forced upon them by men, not a god.
When the Supreme Court upheld the rights of same-sex couples to marry, citing their 14th amendment rights, religious leaders in the United States panicked. New laws were enacted under their guidance to “protect” their zealous and ignorant followers. The most recent are laws forbidding transgendered Americans from using the restrooms which fit their identity.
Legislators in these bigoted states make the claim that the law was enacted to protect women and girls from sexual assault. Here is the truth; there has never been a court case involving an attack on a woman by a transgendered person.
This is simply another attack on the LGBT community by members of cults.
Our nation’s leaders have succeeded in their goals; controlling an entire voting group through fear tactics. Politicians lie, claiming that liberals, or progressives, seek the destruction of their ‘way of life.’ Cult leaders control their flock by claiming that the gay community will destroy the sanctity of marriage. All lies.
It’s time for Americans to grow up and lose their title as the “least-informed people in the world.” If you believe everything you see and hear on your television, you no longer have an intelligent quotient which is measurable.
End prejudice; then maybe we’ll talk about making this country great again.
