“The claim that too many criminals are being jailed, that there is over-incarceration, ignores an unfortunate fact: for the vast majority of crimes, a perpetrator is never identified or arrested, let alone prosecuted, convicted, and jailed,” Cotton said during a Thursday speech at The Hudson Institute
He added: “Law enforcement is able to arrest or identify a likely perpetrator for only 19 percent of property crimes and 47 percent of violent crimes. If anything, we have an under-incarceration problem.”
It only requires two facts to reveal Cotton as an uninformed and racist fool. His solution to the obvious problems with our judicial system is to lock up more Americans; but not whites.
The United States has five percent of the world’s population, and 25 percent of all incarcerated men and women. Secondly, the U.S. has the highest rate of recidivism.
Approximately 50 percent of all inmates in America’s prisons are for drug related charges. 37 percent of all male prisoners are African American.
Tom Cotton is the Republican Senator who acted as a traitor when he wrote directly to Iranian leaders, threatening them regarding the attempt by President Obama’s Administration to halt the nation’s production of nuclear weapons.
Cotton is one of the extremists elected in the 2014 midterm election. He is unqualified and his acts of sedition cannot be tolerated. The people of Arkansas performed a disservice to our nation and its people when they granted him a seat in the Senate.
I know you are all tired of hearing this, but Cotton is another example of what damage is done to our nation when voters elect a party and not the most qualified candidates.
Prison systems in other developed nations have rehabilitation programs intent upon reducing their recidivism; and they are effective. For example, in Germany prisoners are treated as individuals who have ‘made a mistake’ in their lives and not garbage. The goal of the judicial system is to help them return to society through job training and even working outside of the prison during daytime hours.
Many of those in our prisons lived in poverty, or very low-income levels, prior to their incarceration. If income inequality continues to widen, Cotton may see his wish come true. Thousands of the best jobs formerly located near our larger inner cities no longer exist within our shores. As our government continues to encourage businesses to outsource employment, the number of Americans living in poverty increases.
