If Donald Trump was a Catholic and went to confession, he would be there for days. His sins against America are many, but one stands out above the rest and would have dangerous repercussions for our nation. Trump cannot accept criticism, or admit his mistakes. When attacked, he acts like a small child who is arguing on the playground.
A week ago Trump attacked Judge Gonzalo Curiel for doing his job. The District Court Judge will hear a case involving accusations by former students of Trump University that they were defrauded. The Republican standard bearer continues to claim that he will build a wall between Mexico and the United States, insisting that all Mexican immigrants transport drugs to the United States, and that they are criminals and rapists. He claims that Judge Curiel must recuse himself from the Trump University trial because he is biased regarding Trump and his attitude towards Hispanics.
The problem with Trump is that he continues to attack the Judge seven days later, although the facts discount every statement made by the real estate mogul. Although Judge Curiel’s parents immigrated from Mexico, he was born in Indiana. What Trump truly fears is the expose of another failed business venture, and the fact that he intentionally misled potential students.
“I don’t have thin skin. I have very strong and very thick skin,” Trump replied Friday. “I have a strong temperament. It’s a very good temperament and it’s a very in-control temperament, or I wouldn’t have built this unbelievable company. I wouldn’t have built all of the things I’ve been able to do in life.”
“You can’t have that success without good temperament,” Trump continued. “We have been taken advantage of by everybody. We have people with weak temperaments.”
We’ve witnessed his ‘temperament’ at his rallies. When he is verbally attacked, he incites violence; refusing to listen to legitimate criticism. He apparently believes that he is the victim, and is being “picked on.”
Trump’s lack of ability to use the English language results in name-calling and childish responses to criticism. If Trump is intelligent, and I question his claim that he is, he allows his ego to void any clear thought and speech. Ten months after he began his sideshow, no change has occurred in his tactics; he is entirely unqualified to be the President of the United States.
When speaking about Judge Curiel, Trump once again either lied or changed his position on one of his critical promises contained in his weak and minimal platform; his “wall.”
Months ago he admitted that an actual “wall” would not be built, but that immigration laws would be strengthened to forbid illegal immigration. Either way, the facts are not supported by Trump’s rants. Presently our nation is experiencing a record low number of immigrants arriving from Mexico. This is simply another instance of Trump not ‘knowing what he’s talking about.’
Anyone who supports Trump aligns him or herself with the megalomaniac. They share his views and his intelligence level. If Trump represents the worst of America, and I believe that he does, his supporters are members of his ‘schoolyard gang.’
