Yesterday Hillary Clinton made history as the first woman to win a major party’s nomination for the presidency. Her opponent, Bernie Sanders, vows to continue to the Philadelphia convention in July. He will insure that the issues supported by him and by his followers will be heard by the entire Democratic Party.
I’m certain that there will be some “Trump bashing” at the convention, but the majority of major speeches will contain ideas and proposals to cure our nation’s ills. Overall, the mood inside the convention will be positive and offer hope.
Senator Sanders will encourage his supporters to support Hillary Clinton, stating that our nation cannot allow a megalomaniac such as Donald Trump to desecrate the White House. The only interesting event will be Ms. Clinton’s decision as a running mate; she has many qualified men and women to choose from.
The Republican convention will be more interesting inside and outside of Quicken Loans Arena. Fear and anger will dominate the crowds. There will be no revelations of substance by party leaders; only attack, attack, attack.
The conventioneers will be split between those who believe in Donald Trump’s outlandish claims, his prejudice, and support his lack of qualifications, and those who oppose his lack of American ideals and principles.
Outside of both conventions protestors will be boisterous, but in Cleveland they will be filled with anger and hatred. Because Trump will be the party’s nominee, because Republicans fail to support judicial reform, and because those inside are attempting to destroy the affordable care act, social security, and Medicare, while voting against an increase in the minimum wage, dozens of groups of protestors will be attending.
The location, Cleveland, Ohio, invites two large groups who have multiple complaints aimed at Republicans. Cleveland has one of the worst records in the nation regarding the treatment of blacks by law enforcement. Black Lives Matter will be loud and large in number.
Flint, Michigan, is approximately 250 miles from Cleveland. Residents remain angry at Republican Governor Rick Snyder. His ‘cost-cutting’ measure of diverting Flint’s fresh water supply has caused the mostly black population discomfort and dangerous health conditions for three years. They remain angry, and will be heard.
Two “reality shows” with two completely different venues. They will both be fun to watch, especially for politicos such as myself. But one will be rated ‘PG,’ and the other will be rated ‘MA Only.’
