Although Islamophobia has been growing since September 11, 2001, Donald Trump has pushed this evil to another level. Add this fact to his disdain for Hispanic immigrants and we learn that Trump is a xenophobe. This is un-American; we are the great melting pot.
The truth is that if you do not support Trump, in other words, if you are sane, he has no concern for you and yours. He will never represent all Americans.
This story is about another angry and misguided anti-American. US Army Reserve Major Russell Thomas Langford openly expresses his unwarranted hatred for Muslims. His first act was to leave two packages of open bacon at the entrance to a mosque. But that was just the beginning.
“He told people at the mosque that he would kill them and bury them behind the mosque,” said Capt. John Kivett of the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office on Friday in a statement to the press. “He brandished a weapon while he was on the property.”
Langford was subsequently arrested and charged with ethnic intimidation, assault with a deadly weapon, going armed to the terror of the public, communicating threats, stalking and disorderly conduct. He was released on $50,000 bail and placed under the control of the army at Fort Bragg.
Not every act of Islamophobia can be accredited to Trump. Republican politicians have been controlling and brainwashing their supporters through tactics of fear since 2002. The creation of fear has led to anger and hatred.
The fact is that religious extremism has been the greatest danger to the world for thousands of years. Because of Republican politicians, increased hatred of Muslims has resulted in increased numbers of extremists. Ignored are the true followers of Islam who believe in peace. With the recent passing of Muhammad Ali, the true voice of the Muslim world has been revealed.
Sadly, the ranks of misguided men such as Langford are growing in numbers. Ignored are Christian terrorists around the world, including a group which supports Trump; the Ku Klux Klan.
Sadly, many of these Islamophobes are also racists, bigots, misogynists, and homophobes. Trump supporters align themselves with the despot. They represent the worst of America and why we are not a great country. Our nation will never be ‘great’ until it returns to the principles and ideals of our founding fathers; when all men are respected and receive their guaranteed freedom to live the lives of their choice.
Hatred will destroy our nation. Abraham Lincoln stated years ago a fact which continues to be sad but true today.
“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”
