Donald Trump is using the massacre in Orlando for what he believes is political advantage. He is using the classic Republican tactic of fear; saying that “this is only the beginning.” He and his party are circumventing the facts, including another mass shooting with an assault weapon, to rally his supporters.
Every word in the English language has been used to describe the failed businessman, but one sums up his character; despicable. Regardless of his personal weakness, the truth is that Trump knows nothing about government, and is the most unqualified offering from the Republican Party since Sarah Palin.
Under the direction of Karl Rove, George W. Bush began the Republican policy of using fear to gain votes. Lies and misdirection are now the norm. In 2004, Bush said: “My opponent said this war is a matter of intelligence and law enforcement. No, this war is a matter of using every asset at our disposal to keep the American people protected.” Bush inferred that his administration would be more effective than one controlled by an actual military veteran in John Kerry. What he hid from the American people is his resistance to take warnings seriously from our nation’s security forces before the attacks on 9/11.
Trump is desperate. He cannot campaign on domestic issues, and therefore fearmongering has become his mantra. The question is; ‘will the American people once again believe a man who knows nothing and uses rhetoric to incite emotion?’ Trump’s slogan, ‘make America great again,’ is a lie. Advocating racism and hatred is extreme anti-American pomposity. No country, no individual, can be ‘great’ if it or he is racist, bigoted, xenophobic, or a misogynist.
A Donald Trump presidency would move our nation back to the dark days of the Inquisition. His prejudiced beliefs will not ‘make America great again,’ they will destroy the nation our founding fathers designed and believed to be the great experiment.
Throughout its 240 years, there have been periods of time when our nation neared ‘greatness,’ but ambitious men who discounted the majority of our country’s people halted progress. This is Donald Trump.
Trump rejects compassion, tolerance, understanding, and independent, intelligent action. He would rule our nation, not serve its people.
Mass shootings average one a day in the United States. Although the tragedy in Orlando was the worst in our nation’s history, those which result in less loss of life cannot be ignored. Laws must be changed; no argument by lobbyists and ‘gun nuts’ can be allowed to halt this action by our government.
Comprehensive background checks must be completed for all gun sales and prevent criminals and the mentally challenged from purchasing weapons of mass destruction. Assault rifles and high-output magazines must be banned; these are made for military use. No individual on the FBI’s ‘no-fly list’ must be allowed to legally purchase weapons. Common sense must trump emotional baggage.
Trump is a disgrace to our nation, and a black mark on humanity. He must not be allowed to reside in the White House.
