Marco Rubio’s term in the Senate expires in January, 2017. He has proven his lack of interest in reelection by his attendance record and his failure to accomplish substantive credentials during the last six years.
Some Republicans in Florida continue to urge him to enter the race, but he must file by Friday to have his name on the ballot. He said that he is considering his political future.
“I enjoy my service here a lot,” is what he said to the press on Capitol Hill; but is that the truth? According to those who know him well, he dislikes working in Congress with a passion. I’m sure it’s too much work for him.
Having a seat in the House or Senate should require the man or woman in that seat to perform his or her job to the best of their ability; and that requires hard work. Being a member of the TEA Party, I’m sure he was surprised; anyone can say “no” all of the time and accept the life of privilege afforded to our legislators.
Some of Rubio’s own comments display what his associates have previously revealed regarding his disdain for Congress.
“We’re not going to fix America with senators and congressmen,” he said at a January town hall meeting in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, when a woman asked him about a commercial from Jeb Bush’s super PAC that highlighted his absenteeism. “I have missed votes this year. You know why? Because while as a senator I can help shape the agenda, only a president can set the agenda.”
When Donald Trump attacked him for missing votes at a debate in California last September, Rubio replied: “I am leaving the Senate, I’m not running for reelection, and I’m running for president because I know this: unless we have the right president, we cannot make America fulfill its potential.… If we keep electing the same people, nothing is going to change. … And you’re right, I have missed some votes, and I’ll tell you why, Mr. Trump. Because in my years in the Senate, I’ve figured out very quickly that the political establishment in Washington, D.C., in both political parties is completely out of touch with the lives of our people.”
What do you think? I write this blog because I want Americans to cease being sheep, and blindly supporting corrupt and ineffective political parties. Your opinion is the only one which counts.
I believe two things; Rubio is lazy, and he fails to understand how a Democratic Republic functions. My saddest realization is that Republican leadership was supporting Rubio for the presidential nomination. The truth is that he would have been another Ronald Reagan or George W. Bush and spent most of his presidency taking vacations, naps, or playing video games.
It remains a quandary for me; how could the GOP offer 17 candidates to the American people, and not one of them was qualified to become the leader of our nation and the free world? In the end, Donald Trump defeated the Republican establishment and is now the most unqualified and embarrassing candidate ever offered for our country’s highest office.
Would Rubio have been better? Probably not. He lacks the work ethic, the knowledge, and the intelligence to sit in the Oval Office and pretend to perform the job for which he was elected.
