Failed presidential hopeful Rand Paul weighed in on proposed changes to our gun laws by Democrats. In true Republican tradition, he told half-truths, and is protecting the party’s beloved lobby, the NRA.
He was asked about why the perpetrator of the massacre in Orlando was no longer on the FBI watch list, and if restrictions on gun purchases would have prevented such an egregious loss of life.
“It wouldn’t have stopped the Orlando killer — no, he wasn’t on the list,” Paul said.
I agree with the junior Senator from Kentucky, sensible changes to our nation’s gun laws alone would not have prevented the deranged man from attacking innocent people. However, if he had not been allowed to purchase a military style weapon, without even a background check, logic proves that the numbers of those killed and injured would have been far fewer.
Paul calls himself a ‘Libertarian.’ He is at the extreme of his chosen party. He believes in anarchy and continued support of the wealthiest Americans.
Lexington, Kentucky, Mayor Jim Gray is attempting to defeat Paul for his senate seat in November.
“Senator Paul voted to let potential terrorists buy guns. He chose to protect the rights of radical Islam over the safety of innocent Americans. What was Rand Paul thinking? Where is his common sense? Where’s the backbone?”
It’s true. Not only did Paul vote against all forms of gun control, he believes that individuals on the FBI’s “no-fly list” should be allowed to purchase weapons of mass destruction. There is great hypocrisy in the latter. These individuals are not allowed on commercial aircraft, but are free to buy weapons to kill innocent Americans. The villain in Orlando was once on that list.
Rand and his fellow Republican extremists stand behind the second amendment, but seek the revocation of the first, fourth, and fourteenth. I, too, support the second amendment, but the safety of thousands of Americans requires addendums to this article contained in the Bill of Rights.
The United States of America has more than 320 million citizens. Approximately ten-percent of those 320 million individuals possess more than 340 million weapons. People must be protected before the gun manufacturers and gun sellers experience increased profits; the sole purpose of the NRA.
Not a single civilian has a need for a military-style weapon or a high-output magazine. There is no excuse for refusing to complete comprehensive background checks for all gun purchases at every venue.
The average American has reason to fear their mentally challenged neighbor who possesses a gun far more than a terrorist.
Rand Paul is wrong, and I am thankful that Republican voters realized that fact during the presidential primaries.
