Republican Convention Experiences the “Trump Effect”

GOP 2012

I have previously written several articles about what to expect at the Republican Convention next month in Cleveland, Ohio. Here’s a negative directed at the whole party, but the result of what I call the “Trump effect.”

In 2012, Ford, Motorola, UPS, and Wells Fargo all sponsored the convention, but will not take part in Donald Trump’s convention in July. Not a surprise, the American Petroleum Institute will continue to be a major contributor.

Ford denied that the decision was inspired by a Trump candidacy, although it is hard to believe. Trump has constantly attacked the automobile company for building a factory in Mexico. Trump has proven himself to be childishly vindictive with his displays of a weak temperament; I’m sure he’ll have much more to say about the only American car company which did not take a government bailout in 2008.

Although Cleveland authorities, law enforcement, the Secret Service, and others believe that they have prepared for every contingency during the convention, I believe that they will be unpleasantly surprised. This has been the most unusual and despicable campaign season in modern history. It is also unpredictable thanks to the new leader of the Republican Party.

If I was a resident of Cleveland, I would be very concerned about Ohio’s ‘open carry’ law. Although the Secret Service will not allow firearms inside of Quicken Loans Arena, little can be done about the crowds outside. Governor John Kasich has an excellent rating from the NRA, and refuses to institute a temporary executive order for the period of the convention.

Trump and his supporters have previously exhibited a proclivity towards violence. Although they will be outnumbered by anti-Trump protestors, they may be the first to take violent action.

Although RNC Chairman Reince Priebus claims that the convention belongs to the party, like all other events involving Trump, it will be his. Trump is a megalomaniac who believes that he must be in control of every situation.

As for myself, I’ll be in front of my television here in Nevada enjoying the “freak” show.
