Puerto Ricans Tell U. S. to “Get Out”

Puerto Rican Flag

The citizens of Puerto Rico are in fact citizens of the United States. The small country is U.S. territory, and they share the right of voting in elections. What they do not share is the same protection as the 50 states who raise our flag. Puerto Rico’s people want to kick America out of their nation and have complete control over their country and its future.

After the Congress of the United States failed to rescue the island from bankruptcy, the citizens of Puerto Rico decided that it was time for complete independence.

Liliana Laboy, one of the members of the Independentista Roundtable, speaking to EFE: “To insist that it’s time to start the decolonization process that will bring us independence, and to support the hearings this Monday.”

She is speaking about a United Nations committee which will visit her country this week.

In May the government of Puerto Rico was forced to default on $370 million in loans. The result was a cessation of services for 3.5 American citizens; and Congress virtually ignored the situation. Both houses are under the control of Republicans, and their only concern is whether to support Donald Trump or oppose him as the party’s standard bearer.

Less than two years ago there was a movement in Puerto Rico to seek the possibility of becoming our nation’s 51st state. Today the small colony realizes that no one would want to be a part of nation which is self-destructing. They will be more secure under the control of their own government.

Not only must Trump be defeated, but the Senate must return to the control of Democrats, and the House become a more closely divided legislative body.

Yes, I am an Independent, but I am certain that in 2016 I will vote for nearly every Democrat on the Ballot. This is not a choice; it’s an effort to save my country.
