Republican Senate Will Bow to the NRA Gun Lobby

AK47

Today the Senate is set to vote on four issues related to changes in our gun laws. It’s a complete waste of time as long as the NRA gun lobby continues to be one of the owners of the Republican Party. Profits for gun manufacturers and gun sellers will remain the priority of the GOP while preventing the loss of human life will continue to be of no concern.

Millions of dollars are added to Republican campaign war chests each year by the gun lobby. For Republican politicians, winning elections and the success of the party takes precedent over the needs and desires of the voting public.

The Republican Party continues to claim that this is a second amendment issue; it is not. This is comparable to the ages-old case of first amendment rights when the Court decided that yelling “fire” in a crowded theater is not protected by the Bill of Rights. This is a safety issue and the rights of the majority must be supported while special interests are denied increased profits.

“The fact that we’re going to vote on this Monday is an intentional way to keep this as an issue, it’s not a way to solve this problem,” Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) said last week. “We’re going to battle to a draw.”

The Republican Party does not care about you.

The NRA controls the GOP by donating to campaigns. Republican politicians control ignorant Americans by using emotional warfare. Logic must prevail. There is absolutely no connection between comprehensive background checks for all gun sales and the second amendment. This is a public safety issue and nothing else. Convicted felons, the mentally challenged, and persons on the FBI “no-fly” list must not be allowed to purchase weapons of mass destruction.

Military-style weapons are unnecessary. Even members of the military claim that these toys should not be the property of everyday citizens. If our founding fathers would have been forced to face the dangers of these killing machines, they would have written the second amendment in a less ambiguous and far more comprehensive manner. Until the mid-1970’s, when the NRA became a lobby instead of a gun safety organization, the second amendment was previously believed to have been written to support a ‘militia.’ When the NRA and gun manufacturers realized that there was a huge amount of money to be made through fear, they maneuvered the American public into their corner.

Bernie Sanders is right; it’s time for a revolution in America. The people must take back their nation not only from the wealthy who enslave workers and experience increased profits on the backs of the working class. We must defeat politicians who no longer serve the American people; they rule over us.

Contrary to Republican propaganda, the majority of the American people want changes to our gun laws. The majority of the American people favor same-sex marriage; and the majority of the American people want to see fair taxation.

An oligarchy doesn’t work for me; how about you?
