Without Scalia Thomas has no Direction: Will he Resign?

Clarence Thomas

Insiders are spreading rumors about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. They claim that he is considering retirement after the election in November. An interview with his wife denied the suggestion, but those of us who believe that he should never have been confirmed can only hope that the rumors are in fact the truth.

Thomas was Antonin Scalia’s ‘marionette.’ Thomas said little and voted along with the conservative extremist 100 percent of the time.

Because of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s failure to do his job, Hillary Clinton may be nominating two justices next year. This may upset Republicans. She is likely to nominate more liberal justices than President Obama’s offering of Merrick Garland.

I can only dream. I want my government back, and I want it to work. With a Democratic president, a Democratic Senate, and a more liberal Supreme Court, the people of our nation will once again be served by our leaders in Washington. The House will be forced to support the will of the majority and deny special interests to continue their control of our nation.

Republicans will have no leadership after November. The party is splintered into several factions, and none are willing to compromise and work together.

Losing two conservative extremists in the Supreme Court will change politics for years to come. Citizens United would likely be overturned. Same-sex marriage would be protected. Voting laws in red states which are intended to restrict minority voting would be declared unconstitutional.

Another effect of a Clinton presidency would likely be the retirement of two additional justices; Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Stephen G. Breyer. Both justices lean to the left of center. With a Democrat in office for at least another four years, they might feel comfortable leaving the Court and enjoying their lives outside of politics and Washington. Ginsburg is 83, and Breyer is nearly 78.

Although there is no truth in the fact that Donald Trump alone is responsible for the demise of the Republican Party, what is happening to the GOP can fairly be called the “Trump Effect.”

The party has been exposed as a fraud. No comparison exists between todays circus clowns and Eisenhower, Reagan, or Bush 41. Today’s “Republicans” do not believe in America, denounce issues they formerly supported, and have politicized the Supreme Court in an effort to advance their own ambitions.

Reagan and Bush 41 both granted amnesty to thousands of undocumented workers. Both advanced sensible gun laws, and both supported environmental efforts. Until Bush 43, the GOP supported smaller government and the protection of individual rights. Today’s Republicans seek to control our personal lives in support of their owners. When the Court upheld Citizens United in 2010, conservative members of the SCOTUS gave the one-percent the right to buy elections for their employees; the Republican Party.

If Clarence Thomas resigns, together with the death of Scalia the court will have lost two enemies of the working class. Not once in their careers have Scalia or Thomas supported progressives in lieu of conservatives.
