Polls revealed that if Marco Rubio failed to seek reelection for his Senate seat in Florida, Democrats would have defeated Republicans and regained another important seat in its attempts to retake control of the august body. I feel a little sorry for Rubio; he has often said that he disliked his job in the Senate. He certainly acted like it. His attendance record is one of the worst, and in six years he has not accomplished a single thing for the people of his state.
The greatest fear of the Republican Party is not Hillary Clinton winning the presidency. Allowing Democrats to regain the Senate would be devastating. Because of the “Trump Effect,” it is a probability that Republicans will lose some seats, and possibly enough to retake the majority.
Rubio has obviously been pressured by the RNC to rethink his exit from the Senate. Reading between the lines of his comments proves to me that his heart is not into waging a reelection campaign.
“In politics, admitting you’ve changed your mind is not something most people like to do. But here it goes,” he wrote. “I have decided to seek reelection to the United States Senate.”
His reason for re-considering is a little vague. Is he referring to Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump?
“The Senate’s role of being able to act as a check and balance on bad ideas from the president I think are going to matter more in 2017.”
But will he win back his seat? With 70 percent of the American people stating that Trump is an unfavorable candidate, will the “Trump Effect” derail his efforts?
Rubio’s opposition on the Democratic side is likely to be Representative Patrick Murphy.
“Marco Rubio abandoned Florida. Unlike Rubio, I love working hard every single day for the people of Florida. #flsen,” Murphy tweeted, shortly after news leaked that Rubio was running again.
The DNC will wage a strong campaign to defeat Rubio. The consensus is that if he loses his seat in the Senate, any hopes he might have for seeking the presidency in 2020 are dashed.
During the primary season Rubio revealed himself. He was known as a ‘lazy campaigner,’ and during the “debates” he exposed his lack of intellect. He appeared to be unarmed when Donald Trump waged a personal war against “Little Marco.”
Maybe Floridians will be smart this year and realize the harm Republicans have done to their state. Even after the massacre in Orlando, Governor Rick Scott refused to admit that some changes in our gun laws must happen, and soon. Polls show that 90 percent of the American people want some changes, including gun owners. But Scott loves the money the NRA gun lobby contributes to his campaigns.
