Paul Ryan called Wednesday’s ‘sit-in’ by House Democrats a publicity stunt. Maybe it is. More than 80 percent of the American people believe in changes to our gun laws to protect the safety of the majority. They are representing you and me; they are representing the majority of the public. Call this ‘publicity’ if you like, but part of that word is ‘public.’
I am going to give you the facts; something that Republicans hate. No interference with the meaning of the second amendment will occur if restrictions are placed on all gun sales. The primary proposals are simple, would promote additional safety, and are responsible.
Comprehensive background checks are a must for all gun sales. This would include gun shows and internet sales. This is extremely important, and would not restrict the vast majority of our citizens from purchasing their toys. The fact that Republicans are against it makes no sense until you look at the amount of money contributed to their campaign funds by the NRA.
If an individual is considered a danger to the people of the United States, and is placed on a ‘no-fly’ list, he or she should not be allowed to legally purchase a weapon of mass destruction. The NRA opposes this, so Republican politicians obey their masters and ignore the safety of the majority.
Members of law enforcement and the military agree; no average citizen should own military-style weapons and high-output magazines. They are intended for the exclusive use of those men and women engaged in warfare. In several states assault rifles can be purchased as easily as a package cigarettes with no background check and no waiting time.
The most important truth, once again, I must apologize to my Republican friends; more than 80 percent of the American people support these changes, including gun owners.
Republicans fail to represent the American people; they serve their owners who are special interests, including the NRA. We elect legislatures for a singular purpose; to insure that the needs and wants of the American people are addressed. If my math is correct, 80 percent is a fairly large majority.
Ryan is a hypocrite. He took an oath of office to serve his nation, and the last time I looked, his nation is the American people. The Republican Party is composed of liars and ambitious men and women who ignore their constituents once elected. Every major issue favored by the American people is ignored or denied by the GOP.
With Donald Trump as the party’s standard bearer, Republicans have devolved even further. They ignore all issues unless special interests support them. To hell with the people; the only thing we are good for is casting our ballots. Boy, have we made some serious mistakes.
Ryan is secure in his position because he bows to the will of the party before addressing the needs of the people. He joins John McCain who has exposed his disdain for America. Once a great statesman, offering a campaign slogan which boasted “Country First,” he now believes in party before people. Like McCain, Ryan has ignored the danger to our nation posed by Trump and supports him for the presidency.
Ryan, be a man. Stand up for the people who expect you to represent them. Sensible gun laws are a must. The American people are guaranteed rights by the Constitution, and they have a right to expect Congress to improve their safety when attending a movie, a church, a nightclub, or sending their children to school.
Cease allowing yourself to be prostituted by special interests and do the right thing.
