If we ignore the lies from Donald Trump and his Republican supporters, the majority of Americans favor a path to legal residence for over eleven-million undocumented workers. They will not be deported, and there will be no “wall.”
Yesterday the Supreme Court made a decision regarding briefs offered by several red states to rebuke President Obama’s executive action which would have allowed approximately four million families to remain in the United States. Those who had been in our nation for at least five years, and had a child born here or was legally residing in America would have been allowed to legally remain in our country. The Court presently has only eight members, and the vote was four-to-four. Therefore, a lower court’s ruling will stand and the President’s executive order is null and void.
This will affect the November election. Hispanics will flood the polls to secure an opportunity for their brothers and sisters to legally remain in the United States. Statistics show that Independents will reject Trump and favor the Hispanic community.
Two issues will be at the forefront of the election; gun control and immigration, and polls show that the American people support both issues by a large margin.
Only Trump’s supporters agree with his racist and bigoted views. Normal and logical Americans reject his vile proposals. Trump fails to support the Constitution and our founding father’s principles and ideals. He cannot be allowed to reside in the White House and defile our nation’s most revered residence.
Every economist has proven that granting a path to legal residence for more than 11 million undocumented men, women, and children will benefit our nation’s economy. Big business denies this fact, and has been supporting fallacies claiming that they will ‘take away jobs from the American people.’ Their actual complaint is that they will be forced to pay at least minimum wage, and contribute to Medicare, social security, and unemployment insurance. No longer will they be allowed to pay “slave wages” to these workers.
The truth is that there are many reasons why we need these workers. They perform jobs that our young people refuse to do. While Americans are statistically having fewer children, Hispanics have larger families and will continue to provide a future work force for our nation. They spend money to support their families, and they would pay taxes.
Younger Americans do not favor borders between people. Ignored by politicians is the fact that in just over 20 years a new generation will control the future of our nation. Gone will be useless politicians such as Mitch McConnell, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Orin Hatch, and political extremists including Rush Limbaugh, and Bill O’Reilly. We will have new men and women in office who are forward thinking.
Those in my generation of ‘baby boomer’ will no longer be here, and refuse to accept the inevitability of change. Hopefully, there will be a better world where racism, bigotry, homophobia, xenophobia, and sexism no longer exist.
