Every week Donald Trump’s campaign experiences more difficulties. It’s a little sad, and I should probably pity him; but I cannot. His pomposity, vile temperament, and racist attitude forbids me from feeling anything for the failed businessman but contempt.
First it was his racist attacks on the judge who will preside over a lawsuit regarding ‘Trump University’ in November. Next came another attack on all Muslims after the massacre in Orlando, as the billionaire displayed little or no compassion for the victims or their families. Then we learned that his campaign is virtually broke. When his children lobbied for the removal of his campaign manager, Trump capitulated.
His most recent plea was to supporters of Bernie Sanders. As I predicted; that’s not going to happen.
Prior to Sanders’ statement that he realizes that he will not be the Democratic nominee in 2016, over 20 percent of his supporters said that they would support Trump. The number has been reduced to eight percent today, and most of those who favored Sanders say that they are ‘afraid of the Republican Party.’ They will support Hillary Clinton.
Let’s see; who does that leave to support Trump. I’ve tried, but I cannot think of another demographic other than old, white men. That’s disappointing for many reasons.
Recently statistics revealed that millennials now outnumber baby-boomers. Single women, more than 80 percent of whom say that they despise Trump, are the largest growing bloc of voters. Only one in ten Hispanic voters say that they will cast their ballot for Trump. He will not receive votes from non-Christians. The LGBT community will shun the racist and bigot. That doesn’t favor the man with the orange skin and hair.
The latest polls show Clinton with a double-digit lead over Trump nationally. But do not let that influence your opinions or decisions. Polls are of little consequence until both parties have completed their conventions next month. That signals the final ‘push’ for the White House, and traditionally the polls begin to move up and down.
I know what you’re thinking; any true American would have to be out of his or her mind to vote for Trump. I can’t argue with you. However, the primaries were only a couple of months ago. Enough “crazy” people went to the polls to give Trump a convincing win over 16 challengers.
Of course, logic tells me that he cannot win, but no one has been able to predict this campaign season, and I’m not about to make a prediction today. I simply tell you the truth; give you the facts, and you must make up your own mind.
If there is one thing that happens after the election is over, I hope that it is an increase in the number of Independent voters. We outnumber both Democrats and Republicans today, but I would like to see the end of both parties, and the Electoral College. The general election should be returned to the voting public, and allow us to select the best, and most qualified candidate as our president.
