Rubio’s GOP Opponent Proves that Politicians Will Say Anything to get Elected

MR

I am no fan of Marco Rubio, he lacks sufficient experience in a ‘do-nothing Congress,’ has no accomplishments to his credit in the Senate, has a poor work ethic, and I honestly believe he lacks the intellect to hold office in the Senate. That said, his only opponent for the Republican nomination is a businessman by the name of Carlos Beruff.

According to polls, Beruff has little chance of defeating Rubio, but he’s remaining in the race and has lots to say; some nearly truthful, and some very misleading.

Beruff called Rubio a “career politician.” I’m not so sure about that. Rubio, himself, said he did not want to seek reelection; he disliked his job as a senator. However, pressure from the Republican establishment forced him to jump into the campaign. It was probable that the Democratic candidate would defeat all other Republican challengers.

“It’s simple,” Beruff said in a statement shortly after the race became a one-on-one match-up with Rubio. “Do you want a senator who puts politics and their own ambition first? Or do you want a senator who puts Florida first?”

Politicians all say the same thing, but after winning an election their efforts in Washington are focused on the personal ambitions.

“Marco Rubio has become what he once campaigned against — a moderate Republican insider, controlled by the establishment, who has lost touch with Florida values,” Beruff’s campaign said in a press release.

If the latter is true, and Rubio has moved away from the extreme right, there is hope that our government might once work again. It is extremism which has destroyed our democracy.

The truth is that Beruff appears desperate to win the Senate seat presently held by Rubio, but Rubio is ambivalent. He is bowing to pressure from Republican leaders who believe that winning is everything, even if the result proves damaging to their state or the nation.

Rubio’s supporters claim that he continues to be a “bright star” in the Party, and that he is a “great orator.” I’m not so sure that any of that remains factual. During the “debates” Rubio made a fool of himself as he attempted to “out-Trump, Trump,” and failed miserably. He has no ability to speak without a memorized script. His embarrassing display resulted in a 20-point loss in the Florida primary to his adversary.

According to insiders, Rubio wants to become our nation’s president, but he doesn’t like working in the Senate. By his record, this assumption appears to be the truth. This TEA Party darling had a single credit for his six years in Washington. He was a member of the “gang of eight” who wrote sensible immigration reform. But he immediately told the House to defeat the legislation. Really.

As you probably know, I love “old adages.” One states that “you are known by the company you keep.” Rubio’s closest associates in the Senate are Ted Cruz and Rand Paul. For me, that says a lot.
