Making Fun of the NRA: It’s Just Too Easy

AK47

When Wayne LaPierre speaks, intelligent Americans prepare themselves for what I call “idiot-speak.” He lies and makes constant attempts to mislead the American people. The President of the NRA has one goal; increase profits for the gun industry.

A spoof on the NRA’s hilarious and dangerous support of an armed America has been released. “Share the Safety” mocks the NRA’s approach to their fallacious suggestion that an “armed America is a safe America.” It highlights the denial of the facts in every mass shooting in our nation, and the need for sensible gun laws to protect innocent Americans.

“Systemic poverty and dumb laws keep the urban poor unable to acquire lifesaving firearms,” a booming voice declares in a video created for the “Share the Safety” campaign.

The video offers a plan which is virtually “buy one, get one free.”

“It’s a buy one, give one program like Toms shoes, in which market forces are harnessed to get essential items wherever they’re needed,” he begins.

“In our case, it’s about getting the safety of firearms to some of America’s most embattled citizens.”

The satire is meritorious, but also laced with dark humor.

“We all know about the tragic attack in Orlando,” he says. “That tragedy could be compounded by an infinitely greater tragedy if we don’t get homosexuals on our side … The only safe gay is an armed gay.”

The suggestion that the most non-violent members of our society of becoming militant is both humorous and sad.

The entire text and video will be attached at the end of this article. But the truth cannot be denied. The NRA gets a “hard-on” when innocent Americans are killed by guns; the sales of these lethal weapons increase in number and the profits of the gun industry rise exponentially.

I will not state every statistic regarding gun violence in the United States; I am certain that I have worn out my welcome in the past. But here are the main points which demand the attention of our nation’s government and deny the gun lobby influence over our Republican Congressmen.

More than 33,000 innocent Americans die from the use of a gun every year in the United States. In 2015, there were more mass shootings than days on the calendar. Although there are no statistics kept by law enforcement, local newspapers reveal the fact that hundreds of children are killed when they accessed a loaded weapon, or kill another child or adult each year in our nation. Law enforcement and the military have stated that assault weapons and high-output magazines should not be in the possession of the average citizen.

The NRA is not a gun rights or a gun safety organization; it is a lobby representing special interests.

Ask yourself a few simple questions. Should your family be allowed to feel safe attending your local movie theater? If you and your loved one decide to attend a concert or a nightclub, should you fear for your safety or expect the evening to be a joyous occasion? When you attend the church of your choice, is your focus a religious experience, or are you fearful that a deranged person will end your life while worshiping your God? Is there any reason why sending your child to school should create fear instead of joy?

Lose your emotional baggage created by Republican politicians and the NRA and truly think about our nation’s problem with lethal weapons.
