Trump is Goldwater? Written from Fantasyland

Goldwater

“Trump shares Reagan’s charisma and understanding of what scholar Kathryn Cramer Brownell has dubbed ‘Showbiz Politics.’”

The former is from an article in the Daily Beast; a blog I usually respect. I believe that the author needs to look up the definition of ‘charisma;’ and he certainly has no understanding of how our nation functions. The entire article claims that there is virtually no comparison between Ronald Reagan, and Donald Trump; Trump is like Barry Goldwater.

I don’t know how old the author is, but I remember both men well; Trump lives in a different world than either of these true Republicans from the past.

Before Nancy Reagan passed, she and her daughter Patti Davis, stated that Mr. Reagan would have despised Trump; he is not a true Republican. While Reagan was a great orator, Trump lacks the ability to speak the English language. I do not remember Reagan ever raising his voice, and he never personally attacked his opponents; he didn’t need to; he had issues to discuss. Reagan also worked across the aisle; used diplomacy instead of bombs or guns; and gave amnesty to 2.7 million undocumented workers.

Of course I don’t know if Reagan was personally racist or a bigot, but there was never an outward sign that he was. Most importantly, Reagan had governing experience, and knowledge of our political system.

Trump knows nothing, and would be a danger for our nation’s future. The few ideas he has regurgitated inform the American people that he would tear apart accomplishments made by his predecessors, but offer no alternatives.

As for Barry Goldwater, he was considered a radical when he ran for the presidency in 1964. I had just graduated from high school, and was too young to vote. However, I listened to Mr. Goldwater, and I remember his ideas and proposals. He was a true conservative; championing smaller government and individual freedom, with an emphasis on personal responsibility.

Today, Goldwater would be too much of a moderate for these Pretend-Republicans. He is not extreme enough for the failed GOP of the 21st century.

Goldwater was not “Trump-like,” and Trump is no Goldwater. Trump is in his own little world.

In 1964 he lost the presidency to Lyndon Baines Johnson; and he lost badly. Johnson received 61 percent of the vote, topping the previous record set by Franklin D. Roosevelt, and carried 44 states for a total of 486 electoral votes. Hopefully, this will be the only legitimate comparison to Trump. Records are made to be broken.

Unlike Trump, Goldwater united his party, and although he lost the election, he was responsible for gains in Congress.

It is ridiculous to compare Trump to any previous candidate. There has never been a presidential hopeful like him, and that’s not a good thing. He is ignorant, vile, inexperienced, and immoral. This is not a man who should be allowed to violate the interior of the White House.
