Rumors tell us that the Republican Senator from Iowa, Joni Ernst, is on Donald Trump’s list to become his running mate. Trump’s favorability rating with women is less than 30 percent, and he may feel that he needs her to resurrect his failing campaign. Before he makes his choice, he may want to have her tested; I’m not sure that the TEA Party darling is truly a woman. She has voted against every woman’s issue proposed in Congress. She is pro-life, against the Violence Against Women Act, opposes a raise in the minimum wage which affects single mothers, seeks to destroy Planned Parenthood, and she is against Family Leave.
But the issue that is most interesting is that she was a supporter of fellow TEA Party extremist Ted Cruz during the primaries. Ernst denounced Trump as she touted the merits of the Senate’s greatest obstructionist.
If she is offered the vice-presidency, and accepts the nomination, she will prove two things; she is no more than another ambitious politician, and she is the ultimate hypocrite.
She won’t be alone. Hundreds of “Republicans,” who claimed to be part of the “Dump Trump” movement, now support him. It’s another despicable example of how Republicans place their party before the welfare of our nation.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Indiana Governor Mike Pence are also being considered. As yet there is no word from Ernst’s organization whether or not she is interested in becoming Trump’s stooge.
Whoever accepts the nomination must realize that they will be no more than a “trophy wife.” He will use their political prestige, but will have no influence regarding Trump’s campaign. The failed businessman refuses to accept the advice of any members of his team, and that includes the vice-president. “Only one person, Trump, is making the decision and he can change his mind from minute-to-minute,” a source said.
Once again it appears that Trump has chosen individuals such as himself, with a single exception; they have all held or are holding public office. The majority of the American people would refuse to select any of his choices.
Chris Christie has lost all respect he once enjoyed with his rhetoric, and his support of the worst candidate in history.
Gingrich is a criminal and a philanderer. He lacks moral character. Therefore, he is likely the best choice for Trump; they share many similarities including three wives each.
Pence is remembered for signing into law anti-gay legislation which allowed those who claim to be Christians to refuse service to same-sex couples in related businesses. Like Trump, he is openly racist and a bigot.
Ernst would fit well with Trump’s attitude regarding women. They serve but a single purpose and are second-class citizens. They must not be allowed to have equal rights with their male counterparts.
I must report a growing sadness. Because I primarily write about politics, I often recall my admiration for past Republicans. As I do so, I realize that, that party, the party of smaller government and individual rights no longer exists. Thanks to extremists and obstructionists within the GOP, they have moved our nation into an oligarchy where 535 men and women rule our nation; and not in an intelligent manner. Republicans now seek control over the American people, and although they continue to attempt to revoke all social programs, they propose large increases which will allow the Pentagon to waste even more of our taxpayer’s dollars.
Today’s Republicans ignore the great majority as they support the wants of special interests. Principle has deserted the GOP.
