As I woke up this morning, I went through my usual routine, finally sitting in front of my computer, reading what happened while I was asleep. I realized that I live in the movie “Groundhog Day.” The ‘news’ is the same each day; and it’s a travesty for a man with a hungry mind.
Cowardly terrorists are killing innocent people around the world. Unable to win on the battlefield, they slaughter unarmed men, women and children, and for what reason? And why haven’t the people of the world united to destroy these non-humans?
Another black man was murdered by a cop. Protests are occurring, and FOX noise will call the participants “thugs.” The officer will be placed on administrative leave, and never receive punishment for his crime.
There was another story about sexual assault cases occurring at one of our universities, but nothing will be done to change the environment. Women’s rights continue to be ignored by a male-dominated society. Is this the year that all changes?
More horrific storms are causing suffering and death in the eastern part of the United States, but, according to Republicans, climate change is a hoax.
Another corrupt politician goes unpunished for his crimes against the American people, continuing to prove that our country has two judicial systems; one for the average American, and one for the wealthy and privileged.
The media is still talking about Hillary Clinton’s personal e-mails. It doesn’t matter to her opponents that FBI Director explained very carefully why he believes that there was no intent to commit a crime, Republicans want her to be punished. The truth is that they remain fearful of her candidacy and ashamed of their own.
Worst of all, our political system persists in its deterioration.
If you are under 35, much of what is happening in the 2016 campaign season appears fairly normal. Thanks to a failed media, you read and hear constant attacks from Republicans, but no mention of the issues campaigns should be all about. Fear, anger, and hatred continue to be the only tactics available to Republican hopefuls.
While Democrats are speaking about what is needed to heal our nation’s wounds, the media is ignoring them; they don’t increase ratings.
What is new, and not in a good way, is the Republican presidential candidate.
Never in our history has such an unqualified and uninformed man received the nomination of a major political party to become the President of the United States. If this isn’t upsetting, revelations of his lack of moral character should be. His open racism and bigotry is a crime against the American people and a violation of the Constitution. Emotional warfare is his only effective tactic, and inspires those with like-views to become his supporters.
If you are old enough to remember the “real” Republican Party, you are asking yourself, not only how could it allow a Donald Trump to become the party’s standard bearer, how could it offer him support?
Dwight Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan would resign from the Republican Party if they were alive today. George H. W. Bush is refusing to attend the convention this month. The last two Republican nominees, John McCain, and Mitt Romney, will also be staying home. But not Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell; they will be in Cleveland to support their leader.
Trump’s latest moronic statement was to praise former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein. He commended the tyrant for the way he “handled” his enemies.
“He did that so good,” the presumed GOP presidential nominee said. “They didn’t read them the rights. They didn’t talk. They were terrorists. It was over. Today, Iraq is Harvard for terrorism. You want to be a terrorist, you go to Iraq. It’s like Harvard, okay? So sad.”
Trump supports torture, while omitting and denying why Saddam Hussein is no longer in power. However, Trump admits that he loves war, even the nuclear variety, and would have invaded Iraq and removed Hussein from power just as the last Republican president.
If you pay even slight attention to American politics, you must be aware that the very future of our nation is in the balance. A Trump presidency would destroy every principle cherished by our nation’s founding fathers. The ‘great experiment’ would perish.
Our nation has discovered a new ‘low.’ It was difficult for me to look at all the flags flying two days ago; it’s hard to be proud of a nation when millions of our people no longer believe in the United States of America.
