I have been claiming for more than a year that Donald Trump’s success was not of his own doing. He is the creation of failed Republican leadership, which began in November of 2008 when the American people elected their first black president. The resentment of the Republican establishment was evident. Electing a black president whose intelligence was an enormous contrast to eight years of a failed Republican was unforgivable.
Republicans made a choice to destroy our system of government. During Harry Truman’s administration he complained about a “do-nothing” Congress. Thanks to John Boehner and Mitch McConnell, we have experienced a “do ABSOLUTELY nothing” government.
Trump’s popularity grew in direct response to the voting public’s lack of approval for our government in Washington. Trump continues to use fear and anger directed at Congress as the impetus for his campaign. He is less interested in uniting the party than continuing his emotional control over voters.
Although any American who believes in the principles of our founding fathers, and is concerned for our nation’s future, will refuse to allow Trump his ambitions, no one must underestimate his support from the uninformed. He has also managed to bring out previously clandestine racists and bigots who seek a return to the 1950’s, when whites ruled the nation without opposition.
Trump’s entire campaign is founded on negativity. Unhappiness caused by an administration which destroyed our economy, and placed our young men and women in two unwinnable wars, continues to exist. Although President Obama must be commended for placing our nation on the road to recovery, many jobs, which existed before 2008, have either ceased to exist within our shores, or have experienced decreases in wages and benefits. Corporate America continued to experience bloated profits during the recession. As our economy began to grow, these same corporations took advantage of an enormous job market, and offered mostly part time jobs with little or no benefits.
Millions of Americans remain angry; but this is the primary reason not to vote for Trump. The American people must listen to Hillary Clinton’s position on the issues. If the economy remains your greatest concern, she promises to address income inequality, and raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour. She will improve the Affordable Care Act, and strengthen Medicare and social security. The one-percent will be required to pay their fair share of taxes, and the working class will experience a reduction.
In contrast, after close examination of Trump’s tax plan, it was revealed that the wealthy would benefit, the working class would remain stagnant, and the deficit would be increased by trillions of dollars.
To Trump supporters I say, I understand your anger, but your action is required. You must go to the polls in November and vote for yourself and your families. Vote for an experienced candidate who will fight for you, not one who seeks only to satisfy his own ambitions.
Trump is a farce. He is not interested in winning the election to serve the American people. Trump seeks power and fame. He is not a serious candidate; he is merely playing a role.
Hillary is the answer for our nation in these serious times. Don’t waste your vote.
