Mike Pence, Governor of Indiana, has been chosen by Donald Trump to be his “maid of dishonor.” I will give you 10 reasons why he must not be next in line for the presidency, but one supersedes all others. He is a religious zealot, and openly states that, like Ted Cruz, his original endorsement, he places his religion ahead of the needs of the United States and its people.
Religion has no place in our government. I and 65 million other Americans refuse to allow a cult to control Congress. Let’s make this reason number one.
Number two is Pence’s bigotry. He led a state effort to support the “rights” of fake-Christians to deny the rights of same-sex marriage couples. He signed a bill allowing bigoted men and women who owned businesses to refuse services to LGBT couples. He reneged when other organizations decided to remove their businesses from Indiana, which would have cost the state millions of dollars in revenue.
Third, Pence has been responsible for passing some of the most stringent abortion laws in the nation. He supports the fetus before the mother in all situations, placing women in third place in society.
The fourth reason is Pence’s reason for accepting Trump’s nomination. In 2012 Pence failed to receive 50 percent of the vote as governor of the state. He won by just 3.2 percent in the final count. Up for reelection this year, he was expected to lose by many political experts to the Democrat, John Gregg.
One of the major reasons he must be removed from public service is his association with the Tea Party. At number five, he was one of the early supporters of the movement which destroyed both the Republican Party and our nation’s government.
At number six is the fact that Pence is another hypocrite who has no moral standard. Throughout the primaries, he endorsed fellow evangelical Ted Cruz. Now he will be Trump’s right hand man. How low can you go?
Another failure by Pence comes in at number seven. When he was a member of the House, he challenged John Boehner for his position as the Speaker. He lost badly, 168-27.
Number eight is not necessarily a reason to refuse Pence his ambition, but it is significant regarding his political capital. He was supported by fellow TEA Party members and others to run for the presidency in 2008, and again in 2012. He decided to stay in Indiana where he barely survived the elections.
Number nine is another reason Pence has been exposed as an opportunist and a tool of the one-percent. The Koch brothers are major supporters, and he has offered them homage in return.
Lastly, Pence was once a Democrat. His idol was John Fitzgerald Kennedy. He received no interest from Democratic leadership, and found opportunity in the party of big business.
Trump and Pence; another combination which will fail to represent the American people.
I would love to be an insider and fully understand the disappointment of Newt Gingrich, and even more so, Chris Christie.
In 2012 Trump supported Gingrich in his bid for the GOP nomination. More importantly, Christie placed his entire political future in the hands of the “orange man.” There will be no joy in Jersey tonight.
