Wouldn’t you love a job which allowed you to leave, even if you hadn’t finished your assigned task? Wouldn’t it be great if you were only expected to work 100 hours each month, and most of that time was spent attending lunches and dinners to seek advancement? How would you like to make a base salary of $174,000 a year, and have benefits equal to the CEO of a major corporation? Then my advice is, ‘run for office.’
The Congress of the United States of America is leaving the Capitol today, and will not return until after Labor Day. They’re ignoring the needs of the American people, and it’s not because they are overworked.
Among its unfinished business is funding to fight the Zika Virus, addressing gun violence, and federal aid to the people of Flint, Michigan. Other less important issues are left untouched, and will now likely be forgotten.
If you doubt that our government is broken, you do not care about your patriotic duty to insure that your government is serving you. I do not have the specifics regarding Congress’ approval rating, but if it is above zero, I don’t understand.
Congress is dysfunctional, and most of the blame must be placed upon the extremists voted into office by Republican voters. Refusal to deliberate or compromise on the issues means no government at all.
Throughout our nation’s history moderates have been successful addressing the needs of the American people. The TEA Party, or Freedom Caucus, entered Washington with a single goal; to destroy our Democracy. You’ll never hear this from the mainstream media, because it’s the truth.
Unless two changes are made in Congress, we will never have effective government which represents the people of our nation.
First of all, lobbyists must be removed from Washington. These leeches are representatives of major businesses and influence Congress in ways which are often detrimental to the American people. Special interests must no longer be allowed to control our legislators.
Even more important is the fact that it is past time to institute term limits on Congressmen. It is shameful that the men and women who are intended to serve their constituents are more concerned with reelection than doing the job for which they were elected.
There is a reason that after Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected to five terms that Congress voted to establish term limits for our president. The same should apply to them. Their lives of privilege must be limited to no more than two terms. We must force them to focus on their responsibilities, not their personal pleasure.
Elections at the federal level cost millions of dollars. Why would anyone spend that amount of money to obtain a job which begins at $174,000? (Now, for me, that’s a hell of a lot of money.) After two terms they are millionaires. How does this happen?
I’m going to let you think about it, and why they want so badly to be reelected over and over again. Should we continue to allow that travesty?
