Now they’re just showing off. Every Republican who supports Donald Trump has attempted to be more racist and bigoted than the last. We know what the GOP stands for. You have proven yourselves to be loyal racists and bigots. That’s why when Steve King, Republican Representative from Iowa, began his white supremacist remarks on MSNBC, no one flinched. He is a long-time member of the ‘old white man’s club,’ and we’re just waiting patiently for them to die off.
“This ‘old white people’ business does get a little tired, Charlie,” he said to MSNBC’S Charlie Hayes on Monday at the Republican National Convention.
“I’d ask you to go back through history and figure out, where are these contributions that have been made by these other categories of people that you’re talking about, where did any other subgroup of people contribute more to civilization?” He asked.
“Than white people?” Hayes asked.
“Than Western civilization itself,” King stated, failing to understand that he was espousing white supremacy. “It’s rooted in western Europe, eastern Europe and the United States of America and every place where the footprint of Christianity settled the world. That’s all of Western civilization.”
I’m speechless. This is an elected official who is supposed to be serving all of the people of his state. As long as our nation has one person who thinks like him we will never be great.
There is no need to defend any minority against the extreme racism of King. Just being aware of the fact that he is a white evangelical from Iowa is sufficient. He is a skinhead who fails to identify himself.
What he is, is representative of the Republican Party of 2016. No longer the party of Lincoln, it has become the party of the Ku Klux Klan and racists everywhere.
Of course Donald Trump and his cronies will never admit their prejudices; they don’t have to. Their actions speak for them. The platform adopted by the RNC is filled with prejudices and goals to support special interests.
King would not like to be in America in 20 years. We baby boomers are no longer the largest single group; that ‘honor’ belongs to millennials. Millennials are far less likely to be racists, and far more likely to have relationships with other than white only men and women. They have no disrespect for the LGBT community; they welcome them.
Millennial women are more likely to go to college and will be in control of our nation in the near future.
Millennials are a large percentage of the fastest growing group in our nation. More than 65 million of our nation’s people reject organized religion, and question the existence of a god. That’s more than 20 percent.
King must begin to think about these facts. When he is old and in need, he will be forced to rely on demographics other than “old white men” for his care. He must also consider what legislation he favors, if he ever accomplishes anything in the House.
