It wasn’t ‘glorious,’ ‘inspiring,’ or even ‘patriotic,’ it was an homage to the way Donald Trump runs his campaign. Lies and exaggerations about Hillary Clinton filled Quicken Loans Arena as the “orange man” was officially given the Republican Party’s nomination for the presidency.
Last night those who call themselves the Republican Party sacrificed its collective soul and chose the worst candidate in history. Those who claim to support Trump have no concern for our nation and its 320 million people.
The truth is that this is not a convention, it’s nothing more than a lavish party for the Trump family. Donald Trump is finally getting all the attention he so desperately needs.
If you missed it, when Lesley Stahl interviewed Trump and Mike Pence on “60 Minutes,” the most humorous incident occurred when Trump bragged about his ‘huge level of humility.’ That’s right, I didn’t make a mistake; he actually “bragged” about being humble. How ‘presidential’ can one man get?
So what can Republicans look forward to tonight. Trump’s “exciting” vice-presidential candidate, Mike Pence, will surely thrill the crowd as he makes multiple referrals to his religious beliefs; yawn. “Lyin” Ted Cruz will also display the ultimate in hypocrisy when he speaks in favor of Trump. We would expect nothing less from the ‘most hated man in Washington.’
The only Americans thrilled with this convention are the late-night talk show hosts. The only problem they have is time. How do they select which parts of this event to ridicule?
Unless the press has been ordered to ignore the truth, I am very surprised that the protests outside have been so mild. The few photos released by the media appear to show a ‘sea of blue.’ Law enforcement appears to number near thousands, not just hundreds.
It all ends tomorrow evening when the “orange man” takes the stage to formally accept his coronation. It will be remembered as the least impressive and most divisive convention in history.
I promised to watch, but it has become so predictable and boring I fell asleep. As I read the few accounts this morning, I was convinced that I didn’t miss anything.
