Let be perfectly clear; I believe that Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are both despicable men. Neither man will ever have any respect from me and they will never deserve it. However, Cruz fell to a new low last night during his speech at the convention. Once again he followed his pattern of lies and acted in a self-serving manner as he failed to support the GOP candidate, as he previously promised.
Of course the truth is that Cruz is not a Republican; he is the leader of the TEA Party extremists, who are guilty for the destruction of our democratic political system.
Although Cruz was booed loudly and frequently, he did receive applause when he guaranteed that his party would advance its war on women by attempting to violate the Constitution and forbid low-income women from having legal abortions. He also pledged allegiance to the NRA gun lobby, and supported the “wall.”
Cruz encouraged voters to ‘vote their conscience,’ never endorsing his party’s standard bearer.
I was slightly confused when I learned that Cruz would speak at Trump’s convention. Like Trump, Cruz is a “sore loser,” and I couldn’t understand why he would offer his support to a rival he detested. Now I understand; last night Cruz declared his intention to run for the presidency in 2020. He obviously feels certain that if Trump wins he will be a one-term president.
I will admit that I enjoyed Cruz’ treachery just a little. I lost all respect for the Republican Party during the first term of George W. Bush, and the GOP has devolved since. They talk a great deal about the Constitution and America, but fail to support either. The only amendment in the Bill of Rights they support is the second; and only then because the NRA lines their campaign war chests with gold. They fail to support the principles of our founding fathers and continue to support special interests.
The fact that they nominated a man who represents all of the worst of our nation is proof that they have no interest in supporting the majority.
The truth is that if Cruz had won the nomination, the Republican Party would have been just as divided. Cruz is a racist, a misogynist, and a religious extremist; just as great a danger to the American way of life as Trump.
Earlier I asked if the “bromance” between Trump and Cruz had been revived; I have my answer. This is more proof that after the election in November, the GOP will fracture into at least two extremely different groups. Although the party has been very divided for the last six years, Trump has proven that it is beyond repair.
Thankfully tonight ends the convention. It will be ‘lowlighted’ by Trump’s speech, which will surely be filled with hatred and hyperbole, but not a single statement regarding his solutions for our nation’s ills; he has none.
Reviews of the convention will not be kind. Nothing was offered which will impress Independents or un-decides to vote for Trump. The content of every speech was filled with attacks on Hillary Clinton and President Obama.
Substance was a word left out of speech writer’s dictionaries.
