Another Trump Speech: Empty Promises: No Substance

Trump Rally

One thing we have all learned over the last year is that Donald Trump loves to hear the sound of his own voice. I have to admit that when he was giving his acceptance speech last night, I fell asleep before it was half over. I had to read the remainder this morning to learn if he said anything of importance. I now know that my sleep was well-deserved. Although Trump spoke for over an hour, he continued to make empty promises and failed to offer any substance.

A member of the wealthy class, Trump attempted to convince the working class that he would represent them, but he failed to say how. He claimed that he would be “everyone’s voice” in Washington, but never offered details. His entire speech was filled with rhetoric praising Donald Trump, not addressing the needs of the American people. Once again his ego was placed ahead of any plan to serve all of the American people.

He described a ‘nation in peril,’ and he is correct if he becomes the leader of the free world.

“I say these words to you tonight,” he said at the end of a 74-minute stemwinder. “I’m with you. I will fight for you. And I will win for you.”

This has been Trump’s entire campaign; promise everything for everyone but don’t tell them how you’re going to do it.

Sadly, millions of Americans have been fooled. They have been brainwashed to accept empty promises. If you want to hear about issues, you’ll have to wait until next week when the Democrats hold their convention. Hillary will have her opportunity to “bash” Trump; and he’s an easy target. Trump has no positive attributes; he is the leader of the Republican circus, and a member of the one-percent. He has no experience and no understanding of the plight of the working class. He will not represent you; he will represent Donald Trump.

The good news is that the lackluster show is over, and the media can cease their efforts to make it interesting. The right wing can no longer claim that the media is biased towards progressives. The previous four days proved that they support the Republican Party. They failed to ask any questions and allowed the lies of those on stage to go unchallenged. I am ashamed of the ‘fourth estate’ today.

From now on, Trump will be forced to answer the tough questions. He will be crushed in the debates. A man without substance will be facing a woman whose intelligence and experience will “trump” her challenger.

Trump’s party is over, and it was both sad and pretentious. A long line of less than impressive speeches by less than impressive speakers defined the spectacle. When the best which can be offered to the American people are family members, a “star” of a reality show, or a participant of the controversial “cage fighters” as your supporters, I felt pity for the GOP.

I must remember that these were not “Republicans.” They continue to use the label, but have no resemblance to great men and women of the past.
