Last evening Hillary Clinton appeared with her running mate, Timothy Kaine, on “60 Minutes.” Whether you support Hillary or not, she spoke truthfully about the Republican Convention.
“I seem to be the only unifying theme that they had,” the presumptive Democratic nominee said. “There was no positive agenda. It was a very dark, divisive campaign. And the people who were speaking were painting a picture of our country that I did not recognize — you know, negative, scapegoating, fear, bigotry, smears. I just was so — I was saddened by it.”
She’s 100 percent correct. There was no discussion of how a Republican president would solve our nation’s problems.
Once again, the media is pro-Republican. Today all they are talking about is an apparent effort by Democratic leaders to guarantee a victory for Hillary Clinton. Although this type of action is truly disappointing for those of us who supported Bernie Sanders, it is one of the sad realities of politics.
What we didn’t hear from the media is an expose of Republican leadership which attempted to derail Donald Trump as early as last August during the first “debate.”
When that failed, they supported Marco Rubio. When he was badly defeated in his own state, they supported the most hated man in Washington, Ted Cruz. Their “anybody but Trump” efforts failed badly. Why didn’t the media report this truth?
The convention confirmed the fact that the Republican Party is in shambles. Failed leadership created “Trumpenstein,” and he is the symbol of a party fractured beyond repair. This was not a ‘Republican Convention.’ Most credible Republicans were not in attendance, and others were there in a final effort to disallow Trump the party’s nomination.
During the interview, Ms. Clinton finally downplayed the criticism regarding her personal e-mails and numerous Republican investigations into the tragedy in Benghazi. She rightfully referred to FBI Director James Comey’s detailed and lengthy explanation of his organization’s investigation. It’s now a non-issue, but Trump cannot challenge her on the issues; this is his only weapon.
“So whatever he says about me, he’s perfectly free to use up his own air time and his own space to do. I’m going to talk about what he’s done, how he has hurt people in business time after time after time,” Clinton said.
The Democratic Convention will be far more dignified and inclusive. Today the featured speaker will be Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren. Ms. Warren is a champion of the working class, and a close friend of Bernie Sanders.
Unlike the Republican debacle, minorities will be encouraged to attend. The “white man’s convention” did not represent America. Our country’s pride is the fact that we are a nation of diversity. Trump has virtually no support from the black and Hispanic community, and very little from women.
After the election in November, Republicans must unite behind new leadership. Extremists must be removed from the GOP, and replaced with more moderate members who will deliberate and compromise. The American people deserve a working government.
