My grandfather told me 60 years ago that if I didn’t know what I was talking about to say nothing. Donald Trump apparently learned the same lesson. He has nothing to say regarding the issues important to the American people, so he says nothing. His campaign tactics are misdirection and falsehoods.
Today he is attacking the Democratic Party for “rigging the primary season in favor of Hillary Clinton.” He is attempting to divert the fact that the Republican Party has been attempting to dispense of him for an entire year. Trump has failed to learn that denial does not make issues disappear. His party despises him, but he refuses to recognize the truth.
Trump is attempting to divide the Democratic Party. I will not deny that it has some problems, and they are serious. What Trump will not admit is that the party will unite for a single purpose; to insure that he does not become the leader of the free world.
Only a single weapon is in Trump’s arsenal; attack Hillary. Trump cannot speak about income inequality, higher education, immigration, or women’s rights because he doesn’t believe in them. Donald Trump believes that ‘everything is fine’ on the domestic front. He claims that ISIS is the greatest danger to the American people. Trump claims that climate change is a hoax. He doesn’t recognize the fact that America is the most violent nation in the world, where mass shootings have become the norm.
Trump’s supporters accept him as a racist and bigot, and believe the lies and exaggerations he claims to be the truth. I fear these people more than I fear their leader. Has America devolved this far? If one of our two major parties can nominate the worst possible candidate in history, what does that say about our nation’s people. How can the citizens of a once revered country accept lies and attacks as legitimate reasons to support a candidate? How can they not expect him to discuss the issues? Building a wall, deporting 11 million people, and banning all Muslims from entering our nation are not issues supported by the majority.
Trump tweeted: “Leaked e-mails of DNC show plans to destroy Bernie Sanders. Mock his heritage and much more. On-line from Wikileakes, really vicious. RIGGED.” However, he failed to admit that even more egregious action was taken by the RNC. It actually funded Cruz’ campaign by placing television ads in primary cities, in a desperate effort to defeat Trump.
The Democratic Party will not exit their convention without some concerns, but they will be less divided than Republicans. Increasing numbers of GOP loyalists are organizing support for Hillary. Trump only dreams of securing Bernie Sanders’ supporters; it will never happen. They supported a principled American; they would never switch to a despicable fascist.
I am worried for my country. Republicans have become a party which seeks to destroy the nation which nurtured me as I grew up. Although they talk about the Constitution, they do not support all the amendments of the Bill of Rights. The only reason they support the second amendment is because the NRA gun lobby contributes heavily to their campaigns.
I can only hope that voters will make an intelligent choice in November, and not allow their emotional baggage to ruin our nation forever.
