Meryl Streep is no ‘Chachi’

Meryl Streep

Democrats couldn’t get Scot Baio, better known ‘Chachi,’ to speak at their convention, so they had to settle for Meryl Streep. She was unable to give a speech as bland and unenthusiastic as the former “Happy Days” star; she was forced to use eloquence and speak intelligently.

“We got some fight left in us, don’t we?” she rousingly asked the crowd. She touted the fact that Hillary Clinton is the first female candidate to be nominated for the presidency by a major party. “What does it take to be the first female anything?” she asked, setting up the theme of her speech. “It takes grit, and it takes grace.”

The two conventions are truly as different as night and day. Republicans forecast a future as bleak as a horrific storm in the middle of the darkest night, causing death and destruction everywhere.

Democrats are telling the world that a perfect spring day is coming. Our nation can experience a new beginning and new growth as the memory of the failed Bush Administration is left behind us, and Hillary Clinton moves us into the 21st century.

Not only did Ms. Streep offer an enthusiastic and inspiring speech, Senator Cory Booker, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Michelle Obama, Senator Bernie Sanders, and former President Bill Clinton thrilled the crowd with positive words outlining a Democratic plan for our nation’s future.

Tomorrow evening Hillary Clinton will make her acceptance speech. Not only will it be another moment in history, it will hopefully be the beginning of a campaign which defeats the least qualified individual in American history.

Ms. Clinton offers ideas which will improve the lives of all Americans. She has promised to attack income inequality, revise our judicial system, reduce the cost of education, and secure equality for women in all areas. She will improve Obamacare and remove the power and control of insurance companies.

Trump would destroy gains made for the American people, including the Affordable Care Act, the Environmental Protection Agency, and Consumer Rights legislation. He also wants to disband NATO, and give nuclear weapons to all nations. He would likely paint the White House ‘orange.’ His tax plan would widen the gap between the super-rich and the poor.

Some Bernie Sanders supporters obviously fail to understand our political system. Regardless of what recent e-mails revealed, Hillary Clinton won the nomination, and she is the Democratic presidential candidate. Denouncing her and displaying anger at Senator Sanders for his support of Hillary’s presidency is ignorant. We will have a new president on January 20, 2017, and it cannot be Donald Trump.

These individuals are now truly supporting Trump. If they fail to vote, they are taking votes away from Hillary, and offering Trump free rent for four years.

The reasons Hillary has received enormous support from individuals such as Meryl Streep are many. Do not buy in to Republicans and their relentless attacks of Ms. Clinton. This is all they have. Their candidate is a joke, and they oppose finding solutions for the problems most important to the majority of Americans.

Don’t be fooled; use your intellect and Vote for Hillary. I was a Bernie supporter, but I still love my country, and the future is in jeopardy; your future and mine.
