The Koch brothers, creators of the TEA Party, and one of the owners of Republicans everywhere, had their biannual ‘donor’s’ meeting in Colorado this week. They pledged to support Republican and TEA Party candidates for the House and Senate, but rejected support for Donald Trump.
Charles Koch spoke in support of the one-percent who seek the continuation of receiving bloated profits by stating that their goal is “to preserve the country’s financial future, and to eliminate corporate welfare.” Profit before people; greed before patriotism.
The Koch brothers are desperate to obtain support for the Keystone XL pipeline, which will profit them with billions of dollars. If Hillary Clinton wins in November, and the Senate returns to Democratic control, their hopes are in jeopardy.
Their only hope is to regain control of both houses.
Although the defeat of Donald Trump is a must, Democrats and Independents must participate in a huge turnout and elect Democratic Senators. For nearly eight years it has failed to do its job, and with Mitch McConnell as the majority leader, it has accomplished even less. His show if ignorance and party first, screw the nation attitude, has insured that out government stays broken. If he remains in control of the Senate, we will have four more years of failed government. In addition, he may attempt to prevent hearings on the nomination of a Supreme Court Justice for four years; nothing would surprise me.
This election is important because of the issues, although you’d never know it by the lack of media coverage, but it is also important to create changes in our nation and restore our government. Democrats must regain control of the Senate and aid in the passage of necessary and beneficial legislation for the majority of the American people.
It will also result in either a renewal of the once Grand Old Party as an effective political force in America, or complete destruction, and from it will emerge at least two separate parties. Republican leaders have failed their party for sixteen years. They have refused to move it forward and relied on its small base to win elections. It has allowed the Christian religion to influence its positions on freedom and individual rights. It has sold itself to the one-percent and the NRA gun lobby.
If our government had the courage to pass legislation to force lobbyists out of Washington, individuals like the Koch brothers would no longer own one of our nation’s political party. Sensible gun legislation would be passed, and the Christian religious right would go back to their multi-million dollar churches and rectories, where they are not required to pay taxes.
The American people have the power to take their country back, but it only lasts for a single day; that day is November 8th. Vote wisely, and don’t vote for a party; vote for yourself and your family.
