Michael Morell was a senior officer at the CIA during the Bush Administration. He served as the agency’s Deputy Director, and then as Director, under President Obama. He is also an Independent voter who has never before publicly endorsed a presidential candidate. This year is different. Mr. Morell is endorsing Hillary Clinton.
“First, Mrs. Clinton is highly qualified to be commander in chief. I trust she will deliver on the most important duty of a president — keeping our nation safe,” Morell wrote in the op-ed published in the New York Times. “Second, Donald J. Trump is not only unqualified for the job, but he may well pose a threat to our national security.”
Many of you may have discounted those claims when I made them, but here is a man who had undoubtedly one of the most difficult and important jobs in our nation, and he has confirmed my assertions.
This election is not a joke, although Trump seems to believe that it is. America is at a crossroads domestically and internationally. We must have a president who understands how to save the middle class and protect the rights of all of our nation’s people. Our nation cannot afford to have a leader who would lack the ability to negotiate with our allies and our enemies. America cannot allow another rash judgment by a president who would rush us into another unwinnable war.
Hillary Clinton understands where our nation must be in the 21st century. We must lead the world into a lasting peace as all nations join together to defeat the world’s extremists.
Morell credits Ms. Clinton for her accomplishments as Secretary of State. She was one of the first to suggest that we must capture or kill Osama bin Laden. He said she was always “prepared, detail-oriented, thoughtful, inquisitive and willing to change her mind if presented with a compelling argument.”
When asked about her efforts to politicize her office, Morell said:
“I never saw her bring politics into the Situation Room,” Morell wrote. “In fact, I saw the opposite. When some wanted to delay the Bin Laden raid by one day because the White House Correspondents Dinner might be disrupted, she said, “Screw the White House Correspondents Dinner.”
Isn’t this what we want in a president? Don’t we deserve an experienced, qualified, intelligent leader who will make decisions based on the best information available? What we don’t need is a man who refuses to listen to anyone but himself.
If we disregard the fact that the media continues to support Donald Trump by regurgitating issues Republicans have falsely claimed for years, we know that she will make a great president during these difficult times.
Yes, I was originally a “Bernie” supporter. In 2008 I was a Clinton supporter, until she lost her own campaign. What I am is a pragmatist. When Hillary won the nomination, I expected others to act as I did. Hillary and Bernie’s views on the issues most important to me remain very similar.
I despise labels. When Trump called her “crooked Hillary,” I became angry until I realized that he cannot attack her for her many accomplishments; this is the only tactic he can use.
“I’m with her.”
