Florida’s number of cases involving the Zika Virus continues to grow. Pregnant women who contract the disease can expect their children to be born with severe microcephaly. If the child lives, its longevity and quality of life are in question. The mother will have difficulty caring for such a child while attempting to maintain an acceptable quality of life for herself and her family.
Marco Rubio, who is reluctantly running for reelection in Florida, believes that women who contract the disease should not be allowed to have an abortion.
“I understand a lot of people disagree with my view – but I believe that all human life is worthy of protection of our laws. And when you present it in the context of Zika or any prenatal condition, it’s a difficult question and a hard one,” Rubio told POLITICO.
“But if I’m going to err, I’m going to err on the side of life.”
Rubio is simply another religious extremist who continues to wage a war on women. He considers them subservient to men, and their only purpose is to repopulate the nation.
Health officials are considered about the future of pregnant women.
“We’ve never before had a mosquito-borne disease that can cause a birth defect,” the Centers for Disease Control’s director, Tom Friedan, said Thursday in Doral after touring Wynwood. “That’s why we take it so seriously. The key is to protect pregnant women.”
Rubio responded: “Obviously, microcephaly is a terrible prenatal condition that kids are born with. And when they are, it’s a lifetime of difficulties,” he said. “So I get it. I’m not pretending to you that that’s an easy question you asked me. But I’m prolife. And I’m strongly prolife. I believe all human life should be protected by our law, irrespective of the circumstances or condition of that life.”
It is past time to remove the Christian religious right from their control over the Republican Party and restore individual rights to our nation’s women. These extremely difficult decisions must be made by the woman herself. No man, and no cult, has the right to tell her what to do with her own body.
Rubio proved to the American people that he is unqualified and lacks the intellect to be a United States Senator during the “debates” and the primaries. The people of Florida must reject him. He follows orders well, but has no original and positive ideas of his own.
Anyone who has ever known a woman who made the decision to have an abortion is fully aware of the anguish she has undergone. Women are nurturers, and the decision to end an unwanted, or in this case dangerous, pregnancy is not accomplished without an enormous amount of thought and consideration; not only for herself but for the future of the fetus.
One of the few axioms I have ever believed to be the ultimate truth is that the “quality of life is far more important than the quantity.” I firmly believe in pro-choice. I also believe in physician assisted suicide. If there is a god, he or she would not require a woman to have a child, fully aware that he or she would have an extremely difficult life with little joy. He or she would not want to force a man or woman to live a life of pain and agony caused by a life-ending disease as it progresses.
This is common sense; something Rubio is without.
