The battle for the presidency in 2016 offers two strikingly different candidates. One is a failed businessman who has never served at any level of government; the other is the most qualified candidate in the history of the United States. One is a racist who is a member of the wealthiest group of Americans; the other has offered proposals which would positively affect the working class.
Here in Nevada, we have a similar situation. Catherine Cortez Masto and Joe Heck are in a serious battle for Harry Reid’s Senate seat. Their differences are striking, and the result should be no contest. However, Nevada is a ‘swing state,’ and both parties are spending millions of dollars in ads for their candidate.
Here’s the truth. Masto was Nevada’s Attorney General from 2007 until 2015. Together with our Republican Governor Brian Sandoval, she created a safer environment for Nevada’s citizens, and supported the governor’s programs which improved education, and brought thousands of new jobs to the state. She has been praised by both Democrats and Republicans, and has the support of every law enforcement agency in the state.
Joe Heck is a medical doctor, and served in the Army. He was elected to the House in 2010. During his tenure, he accomplished absolutely nothing. He supported big business, and opposed Nevada’s governor in his efforts to improve education in the state. He was against tax incentives which encouraged companies such as Tesla to come to our state. He is a member of the “Freedom Caucus,” which promised to do nothing, and accomplished that goal by creating gridlock in Washington.
All political candidates should be judged by their accomplishments, and their plans for the betterment of the citizens they represent. Our nation is suffering from far too many unqualified Congressmen taking up seats in our legislature. The American voter has been brainwashed by empty rhetoric long enough. We must be better. We must elect qualified and dedicated individuals who will work in Washington.
Heck’s campaign is now falsely claiming that the crime rate rose while Masto was our Attorney General. They are “cherry picking” statistics which could influence the uninformed voter.
The similarity between Trump and Hillary, Heck and Masto, cannot be ignored. If all voters know about the two candidates is from the never-ending television ads, that would be enough to select Masto as Nevada’s junior senator.
Heck’s campaign has not offered a single idea to improve life in Nevada. His only tactic is to maliciously and falsely attack Masto.
Masto’s ads offer information regarding her past accomplishments, and what she will do for our state’s future if she wins the election in November. Her attacks of Heck are based on factual statistics, including his support of big business, and a plan to privatize social security.
This election is far more important than most voters realize. Not only must we elect Hillary Clinton to the presidency, the Senate must be returned to the control of Democrats. Under Republican control, and the failed leadership of Mitch McConnell, the senate chamber has been filled with cobwebs. Nothing has been accomplished; just as McConnell promised. This must end if our democracy is to be restored.
Just say ‘no’ to Republicans, and put Democrats back to work.
