Maybe I read too much. I have come to believe that those who call themselves ‘Evangelicals’ do not believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ. Two of His most important precepts are not supported by this group of sanctimonious religious extremists, and other moral obligations are ignored for convenience.
According to the New Testament of the Bible, Christ commanded his followers to refuse judgement over other men. That responsibility belongs to His Father alone. He also required them to love one another without reservation.
No one can claim to be a Christian if they condemn their fellow man, and hate those who have beliefs different from their own. Jesus offered another admonition: “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” It would serve these “Christians in name only” well, to look at their own lives, and keep their personal beliefs private. I do not want religion involved in my life. I am a free man who refuses to allow another man to control my thoughts and actions.
Three “red” states are moving away from Donald Trump; Georgia, North Carolina, and Utah. Utah is significant because the state is dominated by the Latter Day Saints religion, more commonly known as Mormons.
Mormons are upset with Trump’s beliefs. His attacks against the entire nation of Islam greatly concerns them. For decades Mormons were denounced by Christians for beliefs which were different than their own. They have long memories, and are sympathetic with Muslim-Americans who are under attack by ignorant men and women who fail to understand them. These same men and women call themselves Christians.
The Mormon population is also concerned about Trump’s position on immigration. Well-educated young Mormon missionaries are serving all over the world. They encourage our nation to accept refugees who suffer religious persecution.
Mitt Romney is a devout Mormon, and is well-respected by the citizens of Utah. His denouncement of Trump has aided the rejection of the Republican presidential candidate.
Recognizing that he has a “tremendous problem” in Utah, Trump has been courting Evangelicals. Once again, his desperation is showing. He may be able to convince this group to support him, they do not believe in the definition of “Christianity;” but he cannot fool Mormons.
