The Huffington Post reported today that conservative legal scholars would prefer a liberal Supreme Court, appointed by Hillary Clinton, rather than a Trump presidency. Trump recently made the appointments an issue, and told his supporters that ‘even if voters dislike him, they have to vote for him, or Hillary Clinton will nominate justices who are too liberal.’
Conservative scholars don’t see it that way; they don’t trust Donald Trump. He offered a list of 11 possible justices, most of whom are approved by conservatives, but they doubt his veracity regarding appointments, primarily because he has proven that he doesn’t understand how our judicial branch works. He even misstated that “justices sign bills” into law.
David Post, who now writes for the conservative Volokh Conspiracy, stated that Hillary may only appoint a single justice; the seat vacated by the death of conservative extremist Antonin Scalia. Rumors regarding the retirement of Clarence Thomas may not be true. It is also unclear if Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer will retire before the end of her first term. Post said that it is ludicrous to be concerned about the appointment of a single justice, and to be forced to ‘deal with all the baggage Trump brings.’
There is a growing consensus by thousands of Republicans that a President Trump is not an acceptable option. Some members of the GOP have placed their country in the position of priority number one, and their party second. No one who loves America could possibly vote for Trump. I believe that the Bill of Rights was the most important set of human and individual rights ever written; but Trump does not agree with me or our founding fathers. He denounces the first amendment, and lies about the second. He would revoke the fourth amendment entirely and institute his fascist ideas.
According to recent polls, if the election was held today, Trump would lose, and lose badly. Not only would Hillary win the blue states, she would win the swing states, and possibly some red states.
Since the convention, the anti-Trump movement has grown. His message of fear and hatred is failing. Even Trump supporters with basic intelligence are beginning to visualize a Unites States of America controlled by an egomaniac who is completely unqualified to lead our nation.
Sadly, some Trump supporters who now reject him, and Bernie Sanders’ loyalists, who have had their feelings hurt, believe the many lies from the Republican Party regarding Hillary Clinton. A minor amount of research debunks the attacks or the RNC and Donald Trump. Of course honest mistakes occurred, but they occurred while she was serving the American people.
American voters must ignore personal attacks and misdirection regarding Ms. Clinton which instigate emotions and discount logic. The issues are the only items of importance in this election. Hillary crushes all Republicans when they are discussed. When it comes to national security, Trump isn’t a consideration. His weak temperament allows for rash and dangerous action. He would make the entire world a less-safe place. Hillary is supported by past military leaders and security officials; Trump has been denounced.
There is only one choice in November; America must elect its first woman president, and do it proudly.
