The American people were shocked when they learned that Russia had hacked the DNC e-mail system and exposed efforts by some leaders of the Democratic Party to ensure a Hillary Clinton nomination. Our government was not surprised. Russia has been in a ‘cyber war’ with our nation for some time.
More than one year ago the NSA detected cyber-attacks by Russia. One of its targets was Arizona Senator John McCain. He has been a critic of President Vladimir Putin for some time.
There is no way to know the extent of Russia’s efforts to obtain information from America’s government, political organizations, and corporations; but the NSA and CIA believe that it is extensive. A new ‘cold war’ has begun, and it is as destructive as a nuclear attack.
The world is looking to Moscow for leadership and strength. Republicans blame President Obama for a lack of assertiveness. The truth is that the GOP’s tactics of obstruction have restricted our government’s capacity to protect our information network and counter-attack Russia. Without a functional government, everything in Washington comes to a halt. A small group of extremists in the Republican Party, who promised never to deliberate or compromise with Democrats, have destroyed our democratic government, and replaced it with an oligarchy.
If Donald Trump becomes our 45th president, our government will move to a plutocracy. The wealthy will have even greater control over what occurs in Washington than they do today. Lobbyists will become even more powerful and the working class will suffer. Trump lacks the knowledge, resolve, and intellect to accomplish what is necessary to make America competitive in this new world of cyber warfare.
Our Congress must cease its schoolyard brawls and go back to work. Extremists must be ousted from the Republican Party. Ted Cruz and his cronies must go back to their churches and preach to the flock. America doesn’t want them to continue their destructive efforts, and we certainly do not need them.
All conversations about the divisiveness in the Republican Party is centered around Donald Trump. There is no question that he is an evil and horrid man who represents the worst of our nation, but he alone is not the cause for the end of the GOP.
No single person can be blamed for America’s lack of leadership and respect around the world. Our government has failed us.
Putin does not face the difficulties of Mr. Obama. He is basically a dictator. Whatever Putin wants, Putin gets. He has gradually moved his nation into a position of power, and that power will dominate the outcome of events in the Middle East.
As long as our government is infested by traitors such as Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton, Steve King and others, our nation will continue to lose strength and respect. Negativity is fatal; positive action breeds strength.
