For many of you, this will be the first time you heard about the group “Alt-Right.” I could say that members of this group are the new ‘Nazis,’ and I wouldn’t be wrong. However, they are more subtle than Hitler and his followers. This is a ‘white nationalist movement.’ Their core belief is that an intentional plot is underway to create “white genocide.” This is the reason it “opposes diversity and immigration, arguing that those policies are a form of ‘white genocide.’ It embraces racism, sexism, anti-Muslim bigotry, and anti-Semitism and sees its goal as usurping the traditional conservative movement. They believe that it is not far enough to the right.
Stephen Bannon was added to Donald Trump’s campaign staff last week. Breitbart is the unofficial representative of Alt-Right, and Bannon was its president. Maybe it’s just me, but I find it somewhat frightening that someone that extreme; that far to the right, is the CEO of a presidential campaign.
This group would tear-up the Constitution and rebuild America for their own purpose. They do not represent my country; a country which believes that all men are created equal; that every citizen has inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Our nation values freedom, and will not discriminate by color, race, or national origin. An American cannot be judged by the color of his skin, the language of his birth, or the religion he chooses to practice.
Alt-Right is afraid. The population of the United States will no longer be dominated by white men in just over 20 years. Non-whites and mixed-race families will become the controlling force of our nation. They will move our nation forward by learning from the mistakes of the past.
The signs are clear. The Republican Party is imploding as I write this. It is not simply a split between Trump supporters and Trump detractors. It is split between those who cherish democracy and those who would destroy it forever. Extremists have fractured the GOP for the last six years, and rendered our government dysfunctional.
In a speech Wednesday here in Reno, Hillary Clinton denounced Alt-Right, and Trump’s support of its beliefs.
“This is someone who retweets white supremacists online, like the user who goes by the name ‘WhiteGenocideTM,’ ” Clinton said. “Trump took this fringe bigot with a few dozen followers and spread his message to 11 million people.”
I have been saying for over a year that this is the most important election in my lifetime. Our country’s future is in the balance. We can choose to return to our love and patriotism for the nation created by Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Adams, and Madison, or we can allow groups of anti-Americans to move our nation backwards into its dark past.
We have serious problems; both domestically and internationally. We must have a president who has the temperament and experience to use intellect instead of rash judgment. More importantly, we must have a president who loves her country and its people, and not seek personal advancement at the expense of the majority.
So to put it simply, Alt-Right is a group of skinheads with more money. But they are all the same at their core; they are white supremacists.
