As my wife and I watch the late night talk shows, we often remark that there are certain celebrity guests we would like to know. The one person we both agree would never make that list is Donald Trump. His weak temperament alone is a severe “turn off.” His lack of ability to speak in sentences is irritating. Finally, my wife and I are not racists.
Trump appears to be mentally unstable. When he encourages his supporters to be angry; to hate; and when he incites violence, I am convinced that he is not ‘someone I’d like to know.’
Then, when I hear that he has seen things no one else can verify, such as American Muslims celebrating when the towers fell on September 11, 2001, I not only question his veracity, but also his mind. In December he was interviewed on ‘InfoWars,’ hosted by radio host Alex Jones. “Your reputation is amazing. I will not let you down,” Trump told Jones. Jones has stated his belief that the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary was staged by the federal government to instigate gun control.
Speaking here in Reno, yesterday, Hillary Clinton defined Trump’s campaign as filled with paranoia and distrust, and the encouragement of conspiracy theories.
“His latest paranoid fever dream is about my health. All I can say is: Donald, dream on,” Clinton said in a speech largely aimed at branding Trump as a vessel that has given voice to white nationalism as a form of rejection of the establishment powers that be.
“This is what happens when you treat the National Enquirer like gospel,” she added.
Trump’s campaign has flip-flopped so frequently that he must create a new campaign slogan. Might I suggest: “I believed in it before I didn’t believe in it?”
All of the former is true, but here’s the absolute truth. We must elect the most qualified candidate; one who would represent all of our nation’s people with intelligence, a calm and perceptive demeanor, and the experience to keep our nation safe. This is not a definition of Donald J. Trump.
Some Bernie Sanders supporters continue to denounce Hillary Clinton. They have obviously not followed politics closely prior to this election. They continue to place their emotions ahead of their intellect. I am not defending some Democrats who used unethical means to support her campaign, nor am I defending every word uttered by Ms. Clinton during the campaign season. In addition, I am not choosing the “lesser of two evils.” I am voting for Hillary because of her position on the issues most important to me and those I love. This is what this election must be about; the future.
Wise men learn lessons from the past; it does not define their future. Living in the past negates wisdom, and leaves one behind to live in a state of disappointment and despair. It is time to support Hillary and at the same time demand that she keep her promises, several of which are completely aligned with Senator Sanders.
I am proud to say that “I’m with Her.”
