I don’t know how many of you either understand or care about the cessation of Great Britain from the European Union known as ‘Brexit,’ but it’s worth discussing. It has reappeared in the news thanks to Donald Trump. Many Britons are already regretting their decision, and the final outcome may be years away. Most economists believe that it was a serious mistake; only time will tell.
Donald Trump embraced it and the leader of the movement. This movement was based on emotion rather than fact or logic. It was more about immigration than the economy.
Nigel Farage was a guest at a recent Trump rally. While speaking, he compared Trump to Ronald Reagan. Funny, I am a bit of a history buff, and I don’t remember Reagan every personally attacking a critic or an opponent. I don’t remember him using fear, or anger to excite his supporters, and he never would have incited violence. Reagan also spoke in English.
Farage displayed his ignorance when he praised Reagan for both terms. Our 40th president was a horrible economist. His “trickle-down” economics bankrupted our nation and caused unemployment to rise to more than 10 percent.
Farage has never seen Trump ‘in action,’ when he is being ‘Trump.’ His weak temperament is a danger to our nation and to the world. But Farage sees the world quite differently than most.
After having met Trump, Farage said he is “far less worried.” He added that Trump would be able to “sensibly make the big decisions” if he were elected to the White House.
Ambitious men are dangerous, and both Farage and Trump are very ambitious. Presently Trump is displaying only one thing; ultimate desperation. He is attempting to change his image by pandering to minorities and tempering his rhetoric. More than a year of exposing himself to voters cannot be explained or cured in two months.
Brexit will prove to be a disaster for the people of Great Britain. Every financial agreement with all nations of the world must be re-negotiated. Their dollar, or pound, will greatly fluctuate in value. Mutual protection agreements must be rewritten and re-signed. England may become isolated from the rest of Europe.
As I’ve said many times, “we are judged by the company we keep;” Trump continues to choose the worst; people who are like him and share his same distorted view of our nation and the world.
