For many voters in 2016, the economy remains a critical issue. If that is true, we must elect Hillary Clinton. Not only does she represent the working class on the issues, history makes her the only choice.
Those of you under 40 won’t remember how the majority of Americans fared under past presidents. In Ronald Reagan’s first term, he corrected some of the mistakes of the Jimmy Carter administration. However, after two terms, our nation was trillions of dollars in debt, and the unemployment rate was over 10 percent. His vice-president, and successor, George H.W. Bush inherited an impossible task. His continuation of ‘supply side,’ or ‘trickle-down’ economics failed to improve the situation.
During Bill Clinton’s administration, his economic plan was so successful that he left office with the nation experiencing a surplus. His successor, another Bush and another Republican once again instituted ‘trickle-down’ economics by giving the wealthy a huge tax break. He de-regulated the banking industry, freed Wall Street from all oversight, and placed our nation into two costly and unwinnable wars.
Barrack Obama inherited the worst situation imaginable in 2009. Our nation was trillions of dollars in debt, the unemployment rate was unreasonable, and we remained involved in two wars. Today we are out of Iraq; nearly out of Afghanistan, and the recovery is well under way. The unemployment rate is five-percent, and Mr. Obama has laid plans to reduce the deficit.
America cannot afford the regressive policies of Republicans. The entire working class would fall into poverty under the control of a President Trump. Analyzation of his economic plan reveals that it is similar to that of George W. Bush.
Fair taxation and an increase in the federal minimum wage are musts if income inequality is to be reduced. Lies from Republicans that big business would hire fewer employees and reduce their business ventures in our nation cannot convince any intelligent American. Throughout the great recession, large corporations experienced record profits. They laid off millions of Americans only to hire them back on a part time basis and at a lower wage. This greedy practice must be stopped, and our wealthiest Americans forced to pay their fair share. Donald Trump has no intention of making this happen. He would lower taxes on the one-percent, again.
I purchased my house in 1999, while the Clinton administration was still in control of the nation. Eight years later many men and women I worked with, who had recently purchased homes, were losing them to foreclosure.
America will never be a great country until every American has an opportunity to improve their lifestyle. The Constitution must apply to all Americans; special interests must be forced to eliminate lobbyists. The working class has no lobbyists and our 14th amendment rights are being violated. We are not receiving equal protection under the law.
When you vote on November 8th throw out your emotions and remember this; a vote for Hillary is a vote for yourself and your family; a vote for Trump is a vote for Wall Street.
