The Right Way to Select a Candidate

Clinton and Trump

When selecting a candidate to receive your vote, there are certain obligations we share as the electorate. We must ignore all innuendo and unsubstantiated attacks. If we vote based on unproven assumptions, we are fools. We cannot allow emotion to enter into the equation.

Party affiliation cannot be a consideration. We are electing politicians who will be in office for two, four, or six years, and they must deserve our precious vote. Neither party is perfect and many of their candidates are unworthy of being given a life of luxury and privilege, while refusing to perform the job for which they were elected.

On the positive side, the two most important considerations must be qualification and experience; especially when we are considering a president; the toughest job in the world. There is no time for “on-the-job training.” Intellect, temperament, and the willingness to take advice from experts are critical to lead the free world. Experience in government at multiple levels teaches understanding and gives knowledge to the individual who would lead our nation and the free world.

Finally, any candidate for federal office must mean it when he or she takes the oath of office to protect the Constitution. He or she must not be allowed to support only sections which are aligned with their personal beliefs. A president must represent all Americans; all races, beliefs, and sexual orientation. The needs of the majority must take precedence over the needs of special interests.

The political parties won’t like me giving you this valuable information. They expect their continued practice of convincing voters to cast their ballots based on millions of dollars of misleading ads to succeed. They believe that the American people are ignorant and will continue to vote for any candidate they choose to represent their party.

It’s kind of hilarious when you think about it. The Republican establishment actually believes that the American people will vote for Donald Trump, who fits none of the previously offered criteria. They think that although Trump is aligned with white supremacists, has proven that he is racist, bigoted, and a misogynist, he has a chance to win in November.

So what if he places our nation in another unwinnable war which will cost thousands of lives and trillions of dollars. If he decides to use nuclear weapons; all the better. Nobody cares if he makes life in America worse for the working man and woman; the one-percent will appreciate his efforts.

Your choice, America. You can cast your vote for yourself and your family or allow a buffoon to make decisions which will ruin your lives, and the lives of your neighbors, or send him back to his golden tower. You can allow lies and innuendos to influence your vote and forbid a qualified woman to lead our nation; a woman who supports the working class, minorities, and women.

It’s only your future at stake. So what if our environment is destroyed in less than 20 years. Does it matter that thousands of Americans continue to lose their lives because the NRA Lobby ensures that the gun sellers and gun manufacturers experience increased profits. It’s not your fault if our economy moves into a depression, as predicted by major economists. What matters is that you made a statement; you are angry.

In four years you will be even angrier and seek a revolution. Too late.
