McCain and Rubio Playing Politics by Betting on a Trump Loss

McCain

There are many ways to play the game of politics, unfortunately few of them involve the truth. Politicians make unrealistic promises, like Donald Trump; they attack anyone who opposes or criticizes them, like Donald Trump; and they use emotional warfare, like Donald Trump. Two prominent Republicans, unlike Donald Trump, resurrected an old tactic not used for years. They are pleading with voters to cast their ballots for them to balance Washington when their presidential candidate loses in November.

Wednesday, John McCain said the following on a television ad:

“My opponent, Representative Ann Kirkpatrick, is a good person. But if Hillary Clinton is elected president, Arizona will need a senator who will act as a check — not a rubber stamp — for the White House.”

In June, Marco Rubio stated a very similar plea:

“I feel deeply that no matter who is elected president of the United States,” he told MSNBC, “we are to need a Senate that has people willing to check and balance that.”

With just over two months before the election, McCain is basically throwing in the towel for Trump. He is attempting to distance himself from the unfavorable candidate. This is a risky move. He is hoping to attract “never Trump” voters, and at the same time alienating Trump supporters.

His Democratic opponent is exposing McCain’s hypocrisy. “John McCain has pledged to support Donald Trump over 50 times,” the narrator in a recent Kirkpatrick ad says.

The most recent polls show McCain leading Kirkpatrick by eight points. Will McCain’s tactic help or hurt the aging senator?

In Florida, Rubio will face Democrat Patrick Murphy. The polls give Rubio a lead of 5.7 percent. During the primaries, Rubio lost to Trump by 20 points, therefore the poll results are questionable.

Now, here’s the truth; the truth I always promise you. If the worst happens, and Trump wins in November, the American people will not support him. From the day after the election, he would be the most unpopular president in history. Anyone who is supporting Trump now will be ostracized by the people of our nation. I believe that it is a bigger gamble to support Trump than to oppose him. Sometimes it’s necessary to look beyond one election and into the future. Politicians are frequently narrow-minded, and panic clouds their judgment.

I believe that both McCain and Rubio will benefit overall by attempting to distance themselves from the worst candidate in American history. As more and more of Trump’s past is revealed, his support will decline even more. His policies during the “reality show” “The Apprentice,” were immoral and degrading, and a recent story I forwarded about his illegal modeling agency, are just the beginning.

The media will not have the courage to report the facts and expose Trump, but thousands of others such as myself will.

The Republican Party continues to attempt an “e-mail scandal,” but that will be of little importance after Trump’s lascivious and criminal actions are revealed to the American people.
