If there is one thing lacking in America’s federal government today, it is courage; courage to do the right thing. Placing party before the nation is traitorous. Winning is not everything; Vince Lombardi was wrong. The future of our nation and its people is far more important than a defeat by Democrats or Republicans in November. The only thing that has happened is that those faux-Republicans who support Trump have lost all respect from millions of Americans who love their country, such as myself.
Multiple Republicans have announced that they will not support Trump, and some claim that they will vote for Hillary Clinton. Those who fail to support our nation and its people have become opposed to those who believe in our nation’s future, and sometimes in extreme ways.
If the Republican Party has any opportunity to survive the aftereffects of “Trumpenstein,” it is demonstrated by new and upcoming stars. Nebraska’s Republican Senator Ben Sasse may be one of those who can save the GOP. He has refused to support the worst presidential candidate in history, placing his own future in the balance. Unlike hypocrites such as Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, and John McCain, he believes in “Country First.”
“Lots of Nebraskans adhere to a lesser of two evils theory, and I completely understand and respect that,” Sasse said. “But humbly, I think there’s more to it than that… When you vote, you’re saying that this person is an exemplar of the American system. You’re saying this person has character. You’re telling your kids that this person is a model of civic virtue, and that you hope to have more candidates like that in the future.”
It’s rare to hear the truth from a Republican who is in office. However, he is a different Republican. Sasse is a former college president who holds degrees from Harvard and Yale, something many ‘base’ Republicans denounce as “elitism.” “Party first” is often the mantra of the Republican Party. It is rare to hear a member of the GOP who is considered the future of the party to be truthful.
Sasse added: “Nebraskans are much more comfortable with civil disagreement than finger in-the-wind pandering.”
If the Republican Party is to survive after the debacle which is Donald Trump, leaders such as Sasse must emerge as the future of the GOP. Many Republicans who presently hold office must be rejected. Extremists have destroyed all credibility of the once Grand Old Party. The American people desperately need two parties who agree to disagree, but eventually deliberate the issues and find compromise which will benefit the majority of the American people.
Those who call themselves ‘Republicans,’ but fail to see the future of their party, must be denied influence. It is past time to renounce the failures of the past eight years, and reinstitute the values of Republicans past.
As an Independent, I am hopeful that I once again have viable candidates from the GOP to consider during elections. I have never believed that one party had all of the answers, but in this year and several past contests, I have been unable to support candidates from the once respected Republican Party.
If you agree with me; please re-post my efforts. The mainstream media is hiding the truth from the American people, and we must save our nation.
