In what was supposed to be a grilling of presidential candidates about what it means to be the Commander in Chief, moderator Matt Lauer failed his job. He spent nearly one-half of Hillary Clinton’s time discussing her e-mails, and refused to force Donald Trump to answer a direct question. I didn’t want to be right, but when it was announced that he would be in control, I knew he was a very poor choice for the event.
The truth is that once again Donald Trump proved that he is totally unqualified to protect our nation’s security. He was allowed to attack President Obama and Hillary Clinton, but never offered a single substantive proposal regarding national security.
When Trump lied about his support for the war in Iraq, and the removal of Gaddafi in Libya, Lauer failed to address the facts and call him what he was; a liar. The media has been giving Trump a “free ride” for fourteen months.
The question is, ‘will the debate moderators be much tougher on the candidates?’ We all know that when Trump is challenged, his weak temperament forces him to attack and verbalize his anger. Will this be exposed on September 26th? Will Lester Holt demand direct answers to direct questions from the candidates?
There was only one important fact I took away from last night’s debacle. No matter what the question, Hillary Clinton appeared to be ‘presidential,’ while Trump was evasive because he lacked the knowledge and qualifications to be our nation’s leader. His “answers” lacked any substance. No surprise there.
Someone in the media must get serious about this election; Trump is a joke, and the campaign season has been a catastrophe. He has been allowed to be outrageous, without offering a single solution to our nation’s problems. The few concrete things he has proposed confirm that under Trump the working class would suffer once again, while the one-percent experienced tax breaks and additional and bloated profits.
Please, no more “personalities as moderators.” Unfortunately, FOX Noise’ Chris Wallace has been selected for the October 19th debate. The fake-news network fails to have a single reputable journalist.
Where are the Tim Russert’s who ask the tough questions, and demand answers? Trump has been allowed to avoid answering questions for over a year. Recently when he asked if continued to believe that President Obama was not a United States citizen, he completely refused to say yes or no. His fascist tactics must not be allowed any longer. The media needs to find true journalists with ‘cojones.’
I’m sure the only people more disappointed than me were the military present. Most of their concerns went unanswered thanks to Lauer’s inability to ask the right and difficult questions.
