The mainstream media supports Donald Trump. For fourteen months I have watched with unease as they have given him five-times more coverage, and refuse to call him a liar, a racist, or any other negative, but accurate term.
A perfect example came last week when CBS This Morning had Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, and Hillary Clinton’s running mate, Tim Kaine, on their broadcast just minutes apart.
North Korea had tested another nuclear warhead. Conway was on first, and was asked how Trump would handle that situation and also defeat ISIS. She refused to answer the question three times until Charlie Rose forced her to say something. Conway’s response was ludicrous. She said that ‘Donald Trump had a plan, but he would not reveal his secrets’
Later, Tim Kaine was asked the same question. He gave several options for handling North Korea’s dictator, and for the defeat of ISIS. He was intelligent, coherent, and truthful.
Throughout his campaign, Trump has never been forced to answer a single question directly, or offer a concrete solution to any of our nation’s serious problems. Why not? Clinton has been covered incessantly for using a private e-mail system. Trump has never been questioned about the many lawsuits he faced because he refused to pay his subcontractors. Why not? When the question was raised about the ‘Clinton Foundation,’ the media kept it on the front page. Trump committed campaign fraud through the ‘Trump Foundation’ by contributing $25,000 to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi’s reelection campaign. It was barely mentioned by the media, and no further investigation has ensued. Why not? Trump’s modeling agency imported young women from other nations under “tourist visas,” and put them to work; paying them poorly, and housing them in slums. He violated immigration laws by not obtaining “work visa.” He has never been exposed or punished. Why not? He has violated the law numerous times through illegal campaign contributions for the sole purpose of increasing his business. Nothing about it in the mainstream media. Why not?
If the truth was revealed to the American people, Trump’s numbers in the polls would barely register. He is many things, and none of them are good. His businesses are $650,000,000 in debt; he does nothing well, and would be the worst president in American history.
Republicans couldn’t wait to pounce on Hillary Clinton for saying that half of Trump’s supporters are a “basket of deplorables.” She was accurate. Many of Trump’s supporter believe that they have someone who speaks for them. Trump can say anything he wishes, and there is no uproar.
“When he’s confronted with an inconsistency or contradiction in his own past, he glosses over it, denies it or jumps past it,” said Frank Sesno, a former CNN Washington bureau chief and now director of the School of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University. “We’ve not seen a candidate that’s not held accountable by the public for the kinds of things he has done.”
As far as I’m concerned, there is only one candidate running for the presidency, and she will hopefully lead our nation forwards and not backwards as Republicans would. Trump would never be ‘my’ president.
