I was a bit confused when Kellyanne Conway was hired as Donald Trump’s Campaign Manager. She had no experience. Her expertise was in polling and being a right wing spin doctor. After several interviews by the media, I now understand. She was hired to defend Trump’s lies.
When Conway appeared on “CBS This Morning” last week, she was asked several times what he would do to control Kim Jong-un and defeat ISIS. She talked around the question several times until Charlie Rose finally demanded that she answer the question. She finally responded ‘Donald Trump has a plan.’ Charlie Rose asked what it was; Conway responded; ‘he’s not going to give away his secrets.’ Translated; he has no idea how to solve these problems.
CNN’s Alisyn Camerota asked Conway if Trump would release his tax returns or any sort of proof that he is undergoing an audit. Once again she was unable to directly answer the question. “Why? Are you calling him a liar?” campaign manager Kellyanne Conway retorted, seeming to forget that she was in an interview with a journalist.
It sounds like she is very frustrated by being forced to defend her boss constantly to the media. The truth is that Trump cannot be defended for anything he has done in the last year. He is now attempting to pander to every group he has offended, but it’s too late. He continues to claim that he will fix everything, but fails to offer details.
Trump’s tax returns may be very revealing. Reports that his business is $650,000,000 in debt; his claims of donating large sums to charity; and other questions regarding his financial activities would be revealed. Finally, Trump would be exposed.
Several years ago, Trump championed the ‘birther’ movement. He challenged President Obama to release his birth certificate, and in turn he would release his tax returns. He has failed to keep that promise.
Trump has not placed any funds into the Trump Foundation since 2008. “Instead, Trump retooled his foundation to give away other people’s money: Since 2008, Trump has taken in millions from donors and given it away under his foundation’s name.”
This is the way Trump does business. He has been called a ‘phony,’ but only because calling him a ‘fraud’ would not be sufficient to describe his lack of character.
I’m certain that Conway is questioning her decision to accept her position. She has been required to defend both his lies and his proclivity to ‘flip-flop’ constantly. This is a difficult situation. I am not defending Ms. Conway; those of us who have known her before she accepted this position in the Trump campaign, are fully aware that she loves to talk, and has a single talent; spinning the truth. She defines what makes American politics such a disreputable profession.
