The Case for Eliminating the Electoral College

Voting

The 2000 presidential election was decided by Florida’s 29 electoral votes. Questions regarding the legitimacy of some ballots required a recount. After a long battle, the United States Supreme Court stepped in and forced a halt to the recount, awarding Florida’s electoral votes to George W. Bush.

Al Gore won the popular vote, but was denied the presidency. If he had been elected, our nation and the world would very likely be extremely different today. Mr. Gore would have taken the warnings from our top intelligence officials seriously, and the horrendous attacks on 9/11 might not have occurred. We would not have invaded Afghanistan, or Iraq. False allegations of ‘weapons of mass destruction’ would not have been a part of our nation’s history. Trickle-down economics and the deregulation of the banking industry would not have resulted in the great recession. Bush’s economic plan proved to be a disaster for the American people.

There is no reason for the continuation of the Electoral College. This would eliminate the un-American and un-democratic existence of “red and blue states.”

Personally, in 2000, and 2004, my vote did not count. Although the popular vote totals in my state were very close, I wasted my time going to the polls.

The history of the Electoral College is demeaning. Politicians believed that the voting public lacked the intellect and knowledge to elect out nation’s president in a direct fashion. Now politicians control the general election by controlling individual states.

Do you believe that your vote should count in every election? If you agree with me, write or e-mail your Congressmen and Senators. Let them know that your vote is important. This is the only weapon we have against our failing government, and the right considered most important by our founding fathers.

I would suggest reading the attached link where the reasons for the end of the Electoral College are very clear.

Please repost this and help in the effort to take back our nation for the people, not the politicians.
